 Hello all,

I am just wondering but in the early game (Korcari Wilds & Tower of Ishtal) which works better for a Rogue, I was thinking that Stealth+Aim would be good but it doesn't seem to work as well as I hoped?

Should I use Aim while stealthed shot once, and then switch to Rapid Shot when it breaks?  That seems like it would work well, but it might be a trap?

Aim would boost your damage and armor pen. The stealth would simply force an auto crit on hit. Early in the game rapid shot may be worth while. Later on, it is a dps reduction.

This thread may help you understand archery a little better, be aware of the notes concerning known bugs.

Put quite simply: Rapid Shot is utter crap, but Aim is great if you have the Repeater Gloves from Return to Ostagar.

Rate of fire is controlled through "aim time". Rapid aim items (like most good bows for example) reduce aim time. Rapid Shot does the same thing. But if you already have a rapid aim item, you were already at the minimum, and so Rapid Shot just removes your chance to crit.

Aim increases your aim time. But with the Repeater Gloves, your aim time is zero. This is the best scenario. The most damage and your aim time is zero.

Ironically, Rapid Shot is only really needed if you're using Aim, but the two modes cannot be used at the same time.

Shale's Rock Mastery is still bugged on consoles, there are various bugs that have not been addressed.

I am on a PC, if that matters and sadly I don't have Return to Ostagar yet?

If youre on pc there is a fix for just about every bug currently. You should have no issue playing the game straight regardless.

Other Rapid Aim items are in the original game, and the effects stack. While none are as good as those RtO gloves by themselves, combined should make many an archer content.

And Rapid Shot gets left in Ostagar as a rule

Aim
if you have Return to Ostagar DLC
get the repeater gloves then equip it it should take care of the slow firing
you get mor crits and deal more damage

So if I have both a helmet and a bow with rapid aim the effects stack? Is this tested or verified by anyone?

Look here, about half-way down the page for confirmation:

it does stack, go on the wiki and it tells you.

basically each rapid aim item reduces your aim time by 0.3 seconds, the gloves from RTO reduce it by a capped amount of 3.0s. If you have those gloves then that is the fastest you can physically shoot.

Great, I should have kept all the equipment with rapid aim. Wah Wah...
On my next play through I'll focus Liliana on archery and get her equipment stacking rapid aim. I also made the mistake of using a longbow instead of shortbow while pumping her dex.

Longbow use is not an error, esp if you are playing a Dalish Archer; far better than a shortbow, IMO.

For best results the basic rule is start with a shortbow and (when your stats improve) finish with a longbow.

Not sure what it would have to do with playing a Dalish archer, but longbows ARE the best ranged weapons. I believe Far Song is clearly the best bow in Origins, and there's even a special longbow that only Leliana can use as well.

I would be a mistake to only use shortbows the whole game.

Dalish bows have w/Rapid Aim effects at Origin; nice jump on others.

I thought shortbows calculated damage based on dexterity and longbows use 1/2 dex and 1/2 strength.  I've seen it around on other forums, but can't find other sources.  However, the DA wiki says short and longbows calculate damage the same way.
But maybe that is refering to pre-dex bug fix.

They use the same calculation for damage... the difference is range/ speed.
At low levels the faster speed of the short-bow is better because you have to factor in misses.
