He doesn't even need to be in your party for his personal quest to come up. When you get to it, he will join the scene automatically.

As for the post about losing him in Denerim, there is a way to keep him in your party as long as he likes you enough and you say the right line at the right time. It doesn't require that you do anything with him you might regret, especially if you're a straight male. I never went too far with him in regards to that. I told him I was ok with his feelings even though I didn't share them and I also gave him some of the gifts that were meant for him.

Yeah. Being nice to Zev triggered some sort of flirty lines for my female with Alistair, so I grabbed at an option to dump him somewhat coolly (there were nicer ways, in earlier dialogs, but I hadn't chosen them, so the character ended up sounding like a homophobic adolescent). I did give him his boots and his gloves, but he was only in the... 30's, I think?



He still chose my side in the battle. However, he wanted to leave right afterwards. Hmph. Managed to convince him to stay with promises of future loot.

I kept Zevran during the encounter. We were in a non-consummated relationship at that point and I had given him some gloves. I have to mention that I was really impressed with the voice acting in that scene, especially when he told the guy from Antiva that he (Zevran) wouldn't be going back with him. It was the first thing out of his mouth that didn't sound cocky. That made me like him much more!



He stuck around afterward, too, which is lucky because he's the only one who can open all those chests and doors. I don't have a permanent place in my party for him but I don't mind going back to camp to fetch him when there's a particularly sparkly chest that needs looting.

no it was that zev would be the one pentrating the pc from the shadows. Zev does seem a bit more like he'd be in the sub role though.

He is a very irritating character. He is a shameless flirt, an ineffective fighter, and an opportunist.

I strongly disagree.  If you skill Zevran up correctly and give him good weapons, I found him to be one of the best characters to have in combat in the game.

In fact, I just finished the whole game almost with Wynne, Zevran, and Alistair as my three party members.

Zevran consistently did the best damage and died far less than Alistair.

He's funny, intelligent, has a solid background which undoubtedly explains his motivations and if you're willing to dig into it you discover there are feelings and regrets burried deep down inside despite it all.

And once fully specialised in assasin and double wielding he actually makes a great fighter, you only have to make sure he can backstab.
+ his banter with other party members is absolutely hilarious and can be compared only to Oghren and Shale.

However if you found all the party companions one-dimensional and whiny I guess you never really took yourself time to get to know them and have a low approval with most of them

I have to agree I love Zev, he banters are great and so far I haven't had much problems with him in fights, if you add duelist to his spec's he very resilient.

I found Zevran, and his romance, to be a bit... meh...



He constantly brags about his past exploits in your face which I found to be quite unromantic. He comes off as way over the top for me, I constantly got the feeling that he was just trying to get me naked and unarmed for some stabbity stab stab action, with no puns intended. I also disliked his accent and the fact that he's an elf. His party banter is decent, but Oghren beats him at the field of hitting on Wynne by 6-1.

For all companions you will need to complete a personal question before they are eligible for the "Love" setting. Zevran's will come up a little later, you can't really avoid it.

My current game must've bugged, because I got him at 'love' before even doing Orzammar or the Sacred Ashes quest. My first playthrough it didn't change until the encounter in Denerim.
