So that's it. Is there a mod out there already that does it? And/or is there one that makes it less picky about where your character stands in order to attack something?

You're in the wrong place for mod requests. Go up to the 'forum home' level, then to the toolset section. I know a mod like that doesn't exist at the moment. To tell you the truth, more people are interested in modding DA2 to be more like Origins than the other way around, but the toolset forum is the place to ask.
