Direct x 11: Is it worth it for this game to upgrade?

My plight is that I'm trying to justify spending almost 200 bucks for a good DX11 card for this game alone. I'm currently looking at the www.amazon.com/MSI-Geforce-460GTX-PCI-Express-Graphics/dp/B00446CJDM/ref=sr_1_1 I've spent hours..no days comparing cards and such and reviews. I have no real desire to play games like crysis 2 or metro 2033, or Stalker CoP, etc.. I do wonder if The Old Republic will use DX11 more. But I think the game was built using DX9 I believe. Never the less, they could pull a DA2 on us and implement some DX11 features at the last minute.
The sad thing is, bioware hasnt been very forth coming exactly with the benefits of DX11. Yes, some things, but no good videos comparing or in depth conversations about it. Which leads me to believe that' it seems to only be like a small percent of the games graphics.
I also, don't wanna get a DX11 card and then come to find I can barely run the DX11 goodies. I had no issues with the demo. But half ot the stuff was disabled.
Anyway, some suggestions and opinions would be greatly appreciated before I take the dive.
What I'm really waiting for, are the reviews for the PC version. I'm hoping they will mention if DX11 shines over DX10, or not.
Thanks!

Decide for yourself. You can do that, right?
obviously not, hence the thread.

In his blog post one of the Bioware programmers says he'll be posting again later about the DX 11 stuff specifically. That should give you more info.
If you really want to justify the 460, that's probably within your power.

Then I would go against your wish to be convinced and advise you to wait. If your 260 has served you this long, surely it can last the rest of the year. That way, when you do upgrade, you could quite possibly look at something even better than the 460.

Prices have been dropping a fair bit over the last few months, there is even the Nvidia 550 coming out which may offer OK performance at a nice low price...but the 260 is still a good performing card today..
Unless you're going to be cranking a lot of DX11 games over the next year...I'd wait.

So I kind of doubt DX11 in DA2 will be worth a new graphics card alone. Probably nice if you got already one, but not worth it to extra buy one. Probably would only upgrade if a) the 260 can't handle the DX9 graphic anymore (doubt that) or

I contemplated a different video card for DA II, but looking at the recommended specs, I don't foresee any problems running the game. Frankly, it seems like my cheap card gets the job done. (I think I paid $140 for it in October of 2009). I know nothing about video cards, but aren't the recommended cards already grossly "outdated"?

As DA2 goes to show: depending on what you play, not really.
There are many who gripe about the effect of consoles' large market share on PC gaming. And I'd join them in some of those gripes. One of the wonderful things, though, is the damping effect it is had on the graphics arms race. Even if studios wanted to expend ever more resources pumping up the detail (and I doubt they really do want that), it's just not so justifiable when a large portion of your audience is on the 360 and PS3. You may get some optional gizmos like with DA2, but as far as titles developed with consoles in mind go, your typical gaming PC is getting cheaper, not necessarily more powerful.

Thanks for the advice guys.Im leaning to not buying a new one now. Still waiting for a good review that will talk about it.
The first thing to consider, and it might be quite obvious, is that if you're still using Windows XP (which according to Steam 43% of its users still are), then DX10 & DX11 aren't available to you.
GTX 260 is a DX10 card.
There are plenty of DX10 vs DX11 video comparisons on youtube.
Having watched a few of them I can hardly notice the difference - certainly not enough to justify spending so much on a new card.

Good choice... and look at the bright side... if Dx11 in DA2 *does* get rave reviews, it's something to look forward to during the inevitable second (or third of fourth) playthrough....

Im on Windows 7 64bit.
I agree with you on the vids. While DX11 does make things smoother or more "bumped", I dont think u'll notice it too much in a game like DA. maybe graphic hog games like crysis 2 or even Skyrim possibly. If DX 11 was so amazing on DA then why are they not showing it off? Why are they only showing console videos? They just seem to talk about the upgrades on all versions. Inproved lighting, textures, shadows all across. Which is great news for everyone. The PC version seems to take everyone one step above what the consoles can do. So far im keeping steadfast. Im a big console gamer. It's just DA seems to shine mostly on the PC over the console. And its a game that doesnt seem to really drain your computers resources to make it look great. So that's why , me spending 200 bucks on a new card for just one game is a tough choice.
