For a more complete list of choices... if Merrill is female-romanceable and if she has extra content for a Dalish warden, my canon Warden will be Kiasi Mahariel:
Rescued Redcliffe
Allowed Isolde to kill Connor
Defiled the Sacred Ashes
Saved the Circle of Magi
Cured the werewolves
Chose Bhelen, destroyed the Anvil of the Void
Recruited Loghain
Had Alistair marry Anora
Performed the Dark Ritual
Romanced Leliana

If not, my canon will likely be a city elf or elf mage, but those decisions aren't set in stone yet. Also, I haven't played Awakenings yet, so I'm not sure about those decisions.

Howe could easily claim the Warden just snuck in and killed Anora. You actually do sneak in successfully, after all, so it's unlikely it would be a wholly implausible claim beforehand. It wouldn't take much to solidify people's presumption that the Warden did it.

Loghain has been pretty calculating in the past, so he could easily just point the finger at the Warden to salvage his hold on power, which he'd be willing to do to save Ferelden - which in his mind is equivalent to his retaining power.

How did the Warden know she was there?  Why sneak into a guarded estate to murder Anora, yet leave Howe and everyone else alive?

That's if you leave Howe alive, of course.  If you kill him, he can't claim anything.  You can.

Howe and Anora were not the only two people who knew where she was, however.*  And sneaking in and killing one person is exactly what assassins often do. I think it might be better if we just agree to disagree here.

*-ahem- edited for tone.  It read rather prickly, which wasn't my intention at all.  I'm sorry if I offended.

Also - it occurred to me that if I have Alistair do the DR, then the OGB would be the *only* child any Fereldan monarch has in any of the endings.  I can't imagine it's a coincidence, but I wonder what the significance is?  Why were they so intent on having no Ferelden prince(sse)s?

If the child turns out to be a mage, he won't be able to inherit the title (which is the same problem Connor faces, as Jowan reveals). There's also the possibility of distant relatives being potential heirs to the throne if there's no heir with Alistair or Anora, since the Drydens (from Warden's Keep) are technically of noble blood and (like their great-grandmother Sophia) descendants of Calenhad.

Regarding my choices:

My canon Grey Warden was Surana, from the Magi Origin:

Helped Jowan destroy his phylactery

Went to Warden's Keep, killed the possessed Sophia, drank the elixir, got Avernus to restore the Veil and told him to continue his research because the darkspawn need to be stopped - no matter the cost

Recruited Shale and saved the surviviors of Honnleath

Saved the Circle, accepted Wynne as an ally

Sided with Bhelen, helped the dwarven people, spared the Anvil (it helped save the dwarves from the first Archdemon Dumat and it gave them a hundred years of peace before Caridin sealed it away and left the dwarven people to get violated and eaten because he didn't like how it was being used)

Saved Redcliffe, gave Kaitlyn and Bella money, convinced Lloyd to fight

Released Jowan so he could escape, got the Circle to send me into the Fade

Intimidated the Desire Demon to leave, became a Blood Mage

Completed companion quests, initiated romance with Morrigan

Became an Arcane Warrior, Convinced Zathrian to end the curse

Spared Zevran, helped the Antivan Crows, Sided with "K" (he got the  tranquil proprietor and a Chantry sister on his side)
Helped the Mages Collective

Spared the Urn, defeated Kolgrim, killed the High Dragon

Killed Caldrius, freed the slaves

Spared Loghain, personality hardened Alistair and Anora marry

Trusted Morrigan, completed the Dark Ritual

Became the Hero of Ferelden, asked for the Circle of Ferelden to be given their independence

Rebuilt the Grey Wardens

Surana continued as Warden-Commander in Awakening:

Recruited Oghren, Anders, Nathaniel, Sigrun, Velanna, and Justice, completed their companion quests

Became a Battle Mage

Placed soldiers to "protect everything"

Recruited Alec, imprisoned the Ox, somewhat mollified Derren, intimidated the peasants during the riot

Got the "second" Dark Wolf to help me, killed conspirators

Sided with the City Guard against the Smugglers

Fully upgraded Vigil's Keep, Saved Amaranthine

Justice, Sigrun, and Nathaniel ventured into the Dragonbone Wastes

Killed the Messenger, Killed the Architect, Killed the Mother

Surana continued as the Hero of Ferelden in GoA (where Sentinel Armor helped against the Harvester and the golems) and WH (where I selected the fourth specialization as Shapeshifter), then I left everything behind at WH to venture into the destination unknown (and Dog followed us).
