Actually there is no ring among the DLC items for RtO. With level 6 there should be no problem completing the quest. Personally I would wait and do the quest after finishing The Broken Circle quest and recruiting the new companion there.

I rarely do RtO anymore since I have mods with better armor but the longer you hold off on RtO the better. The armor upgrades to match your level (so around level 15 or so its silverite). As far as I know its available to do as soon as you leave Lothering should you wish to.

You talk about Reaper's Gloves which gives armor pen and rapid aim, as for Ostagar you can go there once you leave Lotherin (the village youre in).

If you have Soldier's Peak you can level armor up by putting it into the storage chest, leaving, and coming back. Meaning if you're level 15 and you put iron stuff in there, go to the party camp, come back and look into the chest all the iron stuff will be silverite or whatever the appropriate material is for that level

Doesn't work on some unique items like the Family Longsword though

That doesn't work on the PC.  You have to sell to merchants and buy back, and there's only a chance they'll upgrade.

Especially if you take Wynne and the Secret Companion.

As for calling Lothering "weird", wait until you get to Haven...
