Unfortunately it seems the gamer companies are trying to force their market into purchasing HDTV's. Sorry folks, but it seems we are having progress forced upon us. Despite the fact the markets are in a bad way and prices are through the roof.

OP,set your display on widescreen in console settings,it should do the trick unless you have a very small TV.

Set it in widescreen usally ruin the image (stretching it),, plus Dragon Age 2 already is fullscreen in 4:3, so they optimized the game for SDTV, they only made the text too small.

It's not the same as Mass Effect 2 where the text was unreadabkle due to unoptimized pixel (hope you undestrand), Dragon Age 2 text have all the pixels, it's just SMALL.

If you can't afford a HDTV, you probably shouldn't be spending money on games.

I feel your pain. I had an HDTV that I was renting from someplace, had to let it go back after losing my job. Now, Mass Effect 2 and DA2's demo has unreadable text.

A low end HDTV really isn't that expensive nowadays. You should be able to find one for like 250 bucks. Or just use a computer screen. They've been "HD" since the late '90s.

For me personally getting even a low end HDTV means not eating for a month or two.

Here, here! Luckily, I have a parent who is generous enough to let me stay here. So, gradually, I'm building up a t.v. fund. Lol, right now, I'm using an American made t.v., it's practically on its last leg.

I admittedly got tired of it all and saved up for 3 months, and got myself a 32" HDTV. I am glad of my decision. My games are so much easier to play now. But I know times are tough, and I give my sympathies to those who cannot afford to save up.

If i recommend you to try,it's because it worked for me and it doesn't strech the screen awfully. Now feel free to ignore my advice. You would have nothing to lose to try it but whatever.

I'm getting tired of it, coupled with I don't know how much longer my t.v. is going to last. I'm glad that I'm only a few paychecks away from an HDTV.Posted Image

Does that cut off any subtitles, 'cause sometimes I have to rely on those to understand what the character just said.

Yay! You keep it up! Trust me, it'll be worth the expense in the long run.

I'll have to try, next time I boot up ME2. I never heard of that solution, until you suggested it.

So buy a really low end HDTV for 200.

I think so :/

BTW, I didn't play Dragon Age Origins, but was the text also that bad on SDTV?

No, it was perfectly legible.

OT: I really thought that after the complaints for Mass Effect 2, they would at least have an option for bigger text. Sadly, that's not so and I'll have to buy an HDTV when I have money. <_<
Maybe part of it can be credited to EA, though. I've heard that Dead Space 2 has the same problem and I'm sure there's other games that do as well.

As a Silver Xbox Live user I have tried the demo today, too.

Sadly, text was completely unreadable on my (big) SDTV. Like and maybe worse than ME2.

Actually, it was a shock. The graphics scale to SDTV flawlessy (many other games don't, like Bayonetta or the first Dead Space) and, after all the noise made by the text size for ME2, I was pretty sure that the problem was solved.

Now I begin to think that they're doing it on purpose. Dear Bioware, do you hate me?
Don't you know that I WAS going to buy DA2?
What have I done to you? Does my money stink?

To everyone saying to buy an HDTV:
sadly I can't. We're doing the same discussions over and over, I'll try to summarize it as much as I can:

1) Xbox 360 DOES support SDTV in the System settings
2) Tiny text does not add ANYTHING to the game, design or artistic-wise
3) Bigger text does not harm anyone, and it's something done in maybe 20 minutes during development.

I don't play with my nose squashed on the screen (like the developers), and now sadly I won't buy DA2 until I have an HDTV. And that means I'll buy it maybe in 1 or 2 years, USED, for 8-10 Euros. I can't do otherwise. Thank you, developers.

Is it so difficult to implement bigger text anyway???
And why someone should "upgrade" their television when the old one is still working fine? And that for games alone?

While I can sympathize as a perpetually broke college student, there really is no better time to get a decent 32' HDTV anywhere. I was able to put aside enough munny last year to finally get one and man, there really is no going back. I played Origins with an sdtv and it was fine. ME2 was pretty horrendous though. So get on it and save up a dollar here, a dollar there, then go buy yourself an hdtv and enjoy the format games are meant to be played and watched in.
