Would have been coold instead of using the default Hawk to atleast pull a ME2 and hide the character.

Mage = Black Hood and Robe
Rogue = Black Hood and Leather Armour
Warrior = Black Plate Armour

Have all their skin covered and their face blacked out or have some sort of ninja mask. At least that wouldn't be stepping on any sort of immersive breaking.

That's not really the purpose though, the purpose is to get people used to a default character appearence. If you take a typical "I want to get into action" attitude, what do you do when confronted with the customisation screen ?
They have already admitted the game is frontloaded so action comes before character. They clearly did that for a reason.
Most people who only care about the action will just skip right by and you will end up with EA data showing that an overwhelming numner of people used default.

No the case. In ME2 you're shown the default Male/FemShepard first and most people didn't use default Shepard. 83% of people use their own face. I'm fairly certain the exact same thing will happen for DA2.

once again, sloppy design decision (basically equating intro with trailer, minus bare-bones cc choices) which should be duly solved by modding.  deep breaths!

I really think you are putting modding on a pedestal that it is in no way capable of reaching.

Why? Wasting more time, they said: time is money.

Bioware should have let us make the exaggerated part with custom hawke enought say. My other 2 cents.

And it would add a whole "mysterious" factor to the Champion rather than having him/her look like an average joe in fancy armor.

I imagine some complaints here would be that you'd also have to cover up either Bethany or Carver, spend time on resources, etc. Personally, all steps with which I would have been fine. Since I have plans for non-white Hawkes, it makes me cringe a bit to see that my first Lady Hawke will be whitewashed. If that's addressed, that would be one thing, but I somehow doubt it will be (that would be a nightmare to code consistently and such, I imagine).

Eh I don't mind covering them up either. It wouldn't be the most difficult thing ever seeing as the devs bothered to give them different faces for different custom Hawkes.

and yeah I see where you're coming from. Frankly one would think Cassandra would know the basics of who she's looking for but apparenty Chantry Seekers aren't particularly good at their jobs.

Yeah it probably would be a pain to code. But as long as Hawke doesn't revert to default face everytime there's exaggeration sequence I'll get over it.

If he/she does though. <_<

This is different though, you have action before you have the facial construction. People who want to get back into it will just click done. Shepard was just one of a number of pre-set faces, Hawke is now the "correct" face of the Legend.

I agree I was just stating if they were to giver you a Hawke before you actually make your character I'd rather have that then the default Hawke there reminding me that's how they want you to see Hawke.

Yeah I see what you mean. :/

Still I think most people enjoy making their own characters. Custom Hawkes while attractive aren't the best thing ever. And I highly enjoy making my own characters. I'm sure plenty of other people feel that way too.

Shep was also in a helmet in the beginning of ME2 so if you imported or created a new Shep, you didn't see him/her at the beginning of the game.

You can bet he probably will.  I really hope he won't though cause I don't like the default male Hawke, such an implementation would pretty much force me to play FemHawke exclusively.

Appearence has no actual game vaule though. I'm sure they would be very happy to get people out of that habbit if they could.

I don't really care about pre-gens so it's either trying to build a hottie that I can stare at for 50 hours, or just take the default male. Except for Shepard.. he looks like a serial killer..

They have pretty much hit my "type" with FemHawke Posted Image she's going to be hard to improve on.

I love the credit people are giving Varric. Surely what we're seeing is Cassandras vision of the story as being told by Varric?

Uh, yeah, this is kind of what I assumed was going on. "LegendHawke" is just how Cassandra fills him in, until Varric gets to the actual details.

EDIT: She's white, thus she would probably fill in with a white person until told differently, if "your" (general you) Hawke is black, for instance. If Varric says "handsome" or "pretty" we get her generic idea of what handsome or pretty is, etc.

People build up 'legends' that are familiar and comforting. Jesus is a perfect example of this.

The difference being that Jesus and anyone that ever saw him died thousands of years ago. Hawke is still alive, as are plenty of people who have seen/met her.

This has already been touched on more than once. You're either really skimming, not refreshing very often or totally cherrypicking what you respond to in an attempt to handwaive counterarguments.

It hasn't been touched on, it's been waffled on and 'Oh it's just the popular idea of what she looks like' nonsesnse without saying WHY that would be the popular idea. Someone upthread said earlier it'd be as if the popular image of Obama was white. It's that rediculous.

Keep in mind this is a vaguely medieval setting.

I doubt many people in 13th century England could have given you good details of what King John looked like.  And as far as we know, Hawke isn't anywhere near as important to these people as a King.

Cassandra is asking these questions because she doesn't know.  Why don't we wait to find out why it is she doesn't know this.

Hey guys. I've tried looking around the forums but haven't seen anything, but is default Hawke's hair and beard usable? Since we can't customize the default face I just wanted to find out.

Thanks in advance =)

Besides, I never understood how Varric exaggerated much actually.

Varric: It all began with the champion, who looked like default Hawke, and his sibling [in somes cases add “with the biiiig ******”] being in some barren wasteland. And then they let “darkspawn” explode and then some more and then they killed an ogre and then a dragon appeared…

Cassandra: Bull****! Tell me what really happened.

Varric: ‘kay! So, it all began with the champion, looking something from completely different to exactly the same of what I just told you, and his family, fleeing Lothering through some barren wasteland. And then they let “darkspawn” explode, and then they met this couple, and then they let “darkspawn” explode together, and then an ogre killed one of the champion’s siblings, and then they killed the ogre, and then a dragon appeared who was actually a legendary old, but sexy witch-lady and had a job offer for them…

Cassandra: Alright. Your story - which is basically the same as before… besides changing the description of the extremely important and prominent man/woman it is my holy duty to find… or not changing it at all… and adding a few persons and some kind of context... to even more “darkspawn” ‘splosions… and ending with an even more implausible encounter - has me intrigued now, I want to hear more!

So she managed to find out who was closest to the champion, and would most be able to find them, has a book with pictures of all the other people on her interest list, and yet doesn't have THE FIRST CLUE of what the champion looked like by the time she finds varric? Bull-crap.

Yes, thats exactly what many people want to hear.. Cassandra is NOT a very good seeker.:pinched:
She probably saw the sexy dwarf chest and is making everyone believe she looks for someone also.

Varric got drunk.
Hawke walks in
Cassandra "I thought you said he was white?"
Hawke "Im Bla-Varric lay off the booze"

Wouldn't it be awesome if Varric got the gender wrong too? ^_^
"I thought you said Hawke was a man?" "Oopsh." *hic*

Already I can imagine a great twist for the ending; Oh right, non of this kickass fighting and world-saving never happened, but thanks for the drink darlin'. Then again, Cassandra would probably kill him for that. I want the dwarf to survive to DA3: The Coming of Reapers.

I think it's worse. In ME2 you could just stick the TV on or go make a sandwich or something. This one actually requires you to do stuff.

@ Eveangaline
after the exaggerations, Varric asks if that wasn't the story she had heard. So apparently Hawkes appearance isn't well known.

edit: because she finally managed to find her voice? Do you know how long she had been standing there thinking "wtf????"?

oh, @ FearTheLiving
"At least that wouldn't be stepping on any sort of immersion."
yes it would
