I think it's worse. In ME2 you could just stick the TV on or go make a sandwich or something. This one actually requires you to do stuff.

Does it?

Try it.  Do nothing and watch Bethany kill everything.

I use the default Hawke but use hand-painted miniatures to recreate gameplay on the desktop. This way I can play the character and companions that I want.

I actually did that. When I started the demo for the ?th time my phone rang, and while I answered it Hawke chilled and watched Bethany annihilate wave after wave of "darkspawn".

I'll give a try when I rent the full game. I'm pretty much done with the demo. Thanks for the tip though.

Then why didn't she call bull**** the second he started describing hawke instead of waiting till varric got to the dragon.

A) She might have no idea what he looks like.
B) He might not have actually described Hawke's appearance, and rather allowed Cassandra to imagine. Maybe she would have asked later, until he started lying.

So that means that Cassandra imagined Bethany having a gigantic rack without any description of what she looked like.

I found it really annoying to have to play through it all over again whenever i accidentally made an ugly shepard...

I don't recall complaining, in fact it makes the story much more interesting.
But that's me talking through my penis again. Damn it.

On reflection I understand why they did it, they wanted to use some prerendered CGI in the intro.

If I had been them I would have done the CGI for both sexes AND all the major ethnicities though ... most of the cost is in the modeling and a few extra facial models and skin colours wouldn't have broke the bank. Would have avoided the stigma of racism.

I'm just glad Hawke's skin isn't so thin, or he'd have bled out on me just from looking at that ogre.  Seriously dudes, can we NOT read what's NOT there, not insert our feelings into Bioware's development reasons, and certainly refrain from hurling such completely unjustified accusations as racism?

If you really HAVE to read things into it, assume that Varric is retelling the tale that is completely covering the entire world.  Kind of like how the "myth" of Santa Claus always portrays some kindly, old, plump, white guy.  Same thing.

I still wish character creation was at the beginning of the game. I'm just not a huge fan of default Hawke. I know the little intro doesn't last so long, but it's still long enough to be grating. And what a huge change it'll be for anyone playing a Hawke of a different race. I know Varric's telling the legend, but how'd the legend end up so skewed?* It's just a little odd.

*I know in our own history we've "white-washed" certain figures. Go read the book Black Athena; I have. But some things don't need to be portrayed realistically.

The way we've chosen to do character creation in Dragon Age II is a little different than what you may be used to, but I think it works fine. Try it out and see what you think of it.

uh..we have tried it (it doesn't bother me) but....saying this at this point doesn't make much sense..they already HAVE seen it (even if full game is slightly different you still see it)

But as long as Hawke doesn't revert to default face everytime there's exaggeration sequence I'll get over it.

If he/she does though. <_<

You can bet he probably will.  I really hope he won't though cause I don't like the default male Hawke, such an implementation would pretty much force me to play FemHawke exclusively.

Gah if that happens I'll wait fo a mod to fix that. Because that would just be ****ing retarded.

Yeah I see what you mean. :/

Still I think most people enjoy making their own characters. Custom Hawkes while attractive aren't the best thing ever. And I highly enjoy making my own characters. I'm sure plenty of other people feel that way too.

Appearence has no actual game vaule though. I'm sure they would be very happy to get people out of that habbit if they could.

I don't really care about pre-gens so it's either trying to build a hottie that I can stare at for 50 hours, or just take the default male. Except for Shepard.. he looks like a serial killer..

They have pretty much hit my "type" with FemHawke Posted Image she's going to be hard to improve on.

Eh there's plenty to improve on her from my view. She looks too much like Squall for my tastes. Except of course Sqall was prettier.

yes it would

Thanks for the uesless response with no info added as to why it would. The only thing that would be breaking the immersion is what is already in the game with Varrik and Cassandra. That and the siblings but just give them the same armor has Hawke where you can't see them either.

Legends are always told exactly the same way by different people. No variation for each culture right?

Culture definitely has to do with varric apparently forgetting what you look like, or not as it were but then that like.. totally sinks their battleship of logic.

Legends usually change OVER TIME. Not changing the very race of the person who did them within a few years of the events happening. It's not like this is a legend about someone that no one ever sees, this is someone who was very active in kirkwall and was involved in big events. You're making it seem like Hawke was some shadow in the night no one ever got a good look at. She's not batman, plenty of witnesses will have been left to say what she looks like.

Except this means she was able to track down the champions companion, have a book WITH PICTURES of all the other companions, have clearly already spoken to plenty of people about the champion, all  while literally not having the first clue what the champion looks like? Bull-crap.

That would have worked if they didn't throw 2 random dialogue choices at us in the middle of the fight. We still have to sit through it as it is. It's like how the installer on Windows 98 had the customization options pop up at random interval during the install instead of having them all in the beginning.

The demo is not entirely like the final game.  The sibling death scene is different and Varric describes how you look vs what people think you look like.

Here's William Wallace's quote:

Wallace: Sons of Scotland, I am William Wallace.

Young soldier
: William Wallace is 7 feet tall.

Wallace
: Yes, I've heard. Kills men by the hundreds, and if he were here he'd consume the English with fireballs from his eyes and bolts of lightning from his arse. I AM William Wallace.

hmm...He didn't look very pleased with the legends. Nor does Cassandra Pentaghast. I can imagine why.
