I don't mind if you don't like this approach. What bugs me is the people claiming it doesn't make any sense, when I personally think I've come up with valid counterarguments to every accusation thrown at me.
Saying "I think the story would have worked better if..." is fine. Saying "I wish I could play as my character instead", also fine. Saying that this doesn't make any sense and BioWare is stupid for doing this is annoying, because I think it's perfectly valid.

That would've been awesome. He could've been as "tall as a Qunari." with "eyes that gleamed like fire" and I would've bought that being a legend looks.

It's pretty arrogant for you to assume everyone else's idea of what legendary should look like. Even more to claim that you know what is the very definition of average to other people. People know he's human. He's not going to look like a ten-foot-tall, laser-eyed god.

No no, you're missing one thing. He's white.
And if there's one thing Western culture likes to tell us, it's that that makes someone very special indeed.
TV, comics, video games, they all make it quite clear that people of color can't really be heroes. Not the big important heroes. Maybe like, Blade, or some third-stringer like that who most people have never heard of, but not Buffy or Spider-Man or any Space Marine ever (default Shep included).
Dragon Age 2 is just carrying on that fine and important tradition and reminding nonwhite video game fans that they shouldn't get their hopes up about anyone ever thinking they could be awesome.
