I have to admit once I saw "There is no public.." I yelled out only Zuul.

Oh great, now i picture Cassandra standing in doorway in nothing but see-through silks, and inquiring a bespectacled dwarf, "Are you... the Storyteller?"

thanks Image IPB

Whose Zuul?

The Gate Keeper Duh...:pinched:  You haven't seen Ghostbusters? Stop everything your doing and go watch it porbably one of the best movies of all time.

would make way better legendary Hawke, tbh.

You clearly have no idea of Bioware's vision of Cassandra's mental image when verbally describing her idea of Hawke's image to Varric.

No matter how handsome, how ugly, how memorable, how interesting, how unique a character I create, in the end (which means a maximum of a few years after the rise to power) the people of Thedas will think of default Hawke? Except when I played default Hawke from the beginning?

Sucks... Image IPB

Not nessacarily. Saibh's explanation is a perfectly valid one, but you could come up with others. Half the point of this framed narrative business is that it leaves elements open to interpretation. Maybe Varric described him falsely with the intention of throwing Cassandra off the scent. Maybe she has been given the wrong description previously. Choose your own adventure.

It's a ghost in ghost busters I think.

Yeah, servant of the Big Bad in Ghostbusters. She possesses one of main characters and claims "There's no (character's name) there's only Zuul!"

Am I taking crazy pills? I must be, because I've explained numerous times--oh, heck, I've even linked to those explanations!--why it could be.

No actually. Legendary Hawke looks like a normal man. Not a legend. So that's not a decent explanation. He looks bland and uninteresting except for the bloodsmear. No elaborate markings (except on his arm), no increased height, (he's a bit extra buff), no anything really unique and special. At all.

A likeness of Woody Allen would make a better epic Hawke.

I don't mind if you don't like this approach. What bugs me is the people claiming it doesn't make any sense, when I personally think I've come up with valid counterarguments to every accusation thrown at me.

Saying "I think the story would have worked better if..." is fine. Saying "I wish I could play as my character instead", also fine. Saying that this doesn't make any sense and BioWare is stupid for doing this is annoying, because I think it's perfectly valid.

Entirely agree. The way you're describing it is the way I saw it as well, I was just pointing out that it could be seen other ways, and still makes sense. You have to actively decide that it doesn't make sense in order for it not to.

I would of gone with a 10 foot tall Hawke that shoots lighting out of his eyes and out of every other orifice.

That would've been awesome. He could've been as "tall as a Qunari." with "eyes that gleamed like fire" and I would've bought that being a legend looks.

I was thinking about pants' Creeper Hawke. If your Hawke looks decidedly unheroic, having the legend detach from reality makes even more sense. No ones going to believe Derpius Hawke became champion.

Yeah personal opinion is enough when he's being imposed on my game as "legendary" and the version of my character that everyone *thinks* he should be when there's nothing legendary about him he's just average. Completely and utterly average.

He looks like a normal action hero. Your average, honest working sqaure jawed stereotype.

Normal men tend to be more shapeless and lumpy.

Really? I don't know what normal men you've been around but most of the ones I'm around aren't shapeless and lumpy. Those are just the fat guys. Mostly they're skinny.

And ugh. I hated Dude Hawke's muscles. Why does my Mage look like he can bench press a cow?

Edit: Saibh you're not exactly the most...aware of my posts are you.  You should've figured out what I was doing long ago.

Because your mage is evil and used blood magic to increace his physical strength.

It's pretty arrogant for you to assume everyone else's idea of what legendary should look like. Even more to claim that you know what is the very definition of average to other people. People know he's human. He's not going to look like a ten-foot-tall, laser-eyed god.

10 foot tall? Laser eyed?

Once again I didn't claim what was average for other people so please don't put words in my mouth. :kissing: I said for me I said I found him average looking. When you said you didn't I didn't say your opinion was wrong. Just said I found him average. Ra forbid I hold a different opinion. I didn't think I needed to specify it was my opinion.

It's quite possible for human beings to be taller than average. And it's quite normal for "legends" to exaggerate height...among other things.

That's what Hawke is right? The "Legendary" version?

So for some reason...legendary Hawke is the average height, but has bulging muscles, magic (well supposedy he has that at the end so that's not too far off), and handsome but not extraordinary looks.

And hey it's okay for BW to push their legendary Hawke down my throat?

+1, that would have done the job much better, but from the information we are given, this doesn't seem to be the developer's intention in the first place. Oh well, BDF can justify whatever they want, evantually a day will come when Bioware remove character creation altogether, and they will still say Bioware in the most perfect developer across all space and time.

I agree, thank god Bioware let us decide what we consider what legendary should look like...huh? :innocent:

No no,  you're missing one thing. He's white.

And if there's one thing Western culture likes to tell us, it's that that makes someone very special indeed.

TV, comics, video games, they all make it quite clear that people of color can't really be heroes. Not the big important heroes. Maybe like, Blade, or some third-stringer like that who most people have never heard of, but not Buffy or Spider-Man or any Space Marine ever (default Shep included).

Dragon Age 2 is just carrying on that fine and important tradition and reminding nonwhite video game fans that they shouldn't get their hopes up about anyone ever thinking they could be awesome.
