I know a legend says a lot of things, but most people will know if a man is black, white, brown, or whatever if he's only been a legend for a couple of years. This is especially true if the story is being told by someone who knew him personally. No matter how I care about a certain legendary individual, if I knew him, I would not describe a black person as a white person. Jesus did not look like Charles Manson, but as Christianity became more and more a part of Roman and Western Culture by extension, his appearance changed to match up with the more Caucasian members of that society. That happened over a hundred years at least. I know constructing a Legend in a story is more about formalism or expressionism, but I believe if its somewhat recent it should be grounded a bit more in realism.
You can blame it on Varric's habit of embellishing of certain things, but its hard to imagine a complete skin color change as an embellishment.

I honestly doubt this is how they really have it in the game. Is it confirmed? It had to be just for the demo.
most likely for the game as well. but I hope it is as short as it is. actually I remember at the Comic-Con demo they showed a lot younger and hotter flemeth in that part. I want that to be in it.
to nijnij: thats exactly what I was going for

It's really just a minor thing. And I wouldn't even make a thread about it tbh. But since someone did, I just feel like pointing it out because it is however somewhat silly.Blumbum wrote...

How is stupid? People get into the action quicker at the expense of a story-backed ten minutes of default Hawke. It makes sense from a lot of angles.

How do they get into the story faster? They see the exaggerated part just to spend the next half hour in the CC menu. Unless they choose default hawke from start, which still doesn't explain why the CC pops up after the game started.Saibh wrote...

ah yes, I was hungover/drunkish from a bachelor party then went to Comic-Con the next day, that would explain it. Mike Laidlaw even looked good that day.

Coins are source of news themselves -- these who have them can show them to others, effectively showing them what the champion looks like. These other people can pass that knowledge. And so it spreads.AntiChri5 wrote...
News spreads far faster then a new type of coin.
In fact, if you look at our own history " The populace [of Roman Empire] often learned of a new Roman Emperor when coins appeared with the new Emperor's portrait"
That's very unlikely when you consider practical benefits of minting your own money, and the danger of leaving it in hands of others. For what's worth the city-states of our own history commonly did issue their own money, both for practical and propaganda purposes. It's a matter entirely different from military alliances (and for this matter, note that "banding together" still required each city-state to actually have its own, stand-alone and separately maintained army in the first place)Kirkwall is a city state, and it is entirely possible all of the city states in the Free Marches share a currency, since they are reffered to as a collective at times. We know that they band together during a crises.

Only if your Hawke looks something like the default Hawke. If not it could be immersion breaking.

It's not a big deal at all, althought I know I will hate having to go through it everytime I'll create a new character.

At the very least it is Bioware telling you: You can make your custom Hawke, but this is what he really looks like. Somehow like they want to encourage you to play default Hawke. I don't get it.omearaee wrote...

People are getting angry that default Hawke is white? Seriously? That's what people are angry about? People are angry over a plot device, as if they have some sort of moral argument?
Read these words carefully.
Plot Device.
He's telling a LEGEND.
You know what legends are? Not real. Based on truth, but ultimately, legends are FALSE.
Let's look at what could be said about Hawke. For all we know Hawke ran around in full body armor, and nobody saw his skin color. Maybe he saved someone. Someone who is in SHOCK at yanno... almost dying? Say Hawke is dark skinned. Fine. He's got companions. So Merill and Sebastian are there. So, Hawke for all we know, could be this ripped dark skinned man, but someone saw Sebastian - okay so maybe Hawke is bald, but they associate parts of Sebastian with Hawke. Maybe they noticed Merrill, and associated a more lithe build with Hawke.
Someone in utter awe of the LEGEND, might describe Hawke thus as a lithe white skinned ponytailed hero for all we know, when he's a dark skinned ripped warrior.
Think the game telephone.
Seriously, the people morally outraged at this need to grow up.
BTW, Santa Claus is a legend, and he's portrayed as white too. Cry some more. (PS. Sorry in advance to the higher powers, this is a stupid argument that infuriates me)
