You got my hopes up so I checked out Amazon.co.uk only to find that the signature edition is £22 more than the normal edition, so that's a 25 euro or $35 difference. Wow... In fact, I don't even know why anyone would buy that, since the Prince DLC is going to cost a lot less than that. I'll just point out in the sake of fairness that there is a special offer on the regular edition but not on the signature edition. However, on GAME.co.uk the regular edition is about the same price without any special offer on it, and I got a further £5 off because of my loyalty card - so that's a £27 saving; enough to buy the DLC and a few other pre-owned games or some old classics from GOG.Amirantha wrote...
Actually this prompted me to look over at amazon again, someone mentioned the sig ed is still available and not only from third partys for 20+ bucks more than originally... and yes *dance* there it is... stopped my normal pre-order and ordered the sig for 46Euro... Hello my prince, welcome home

Although someone in another thread mentioned, it isn´t possible to order it still and all orders that came in after 11th January will be downgraded to normal edition, others say, if whoever has some stock of the sig ed left could actually still sell them, so maybe amazon got enough cancellations...? I don´t know, but I will keep my fingers crossed.

That implies that he isn't going to be making us LOL over the course of the game.

Prince of what ? the deposed Viscount was Threnhold other than that i doubt Kirkwall had a royality
As I recall, the Free Marches is home to several city states. Since he's been exiled, he might be simply hiding out in Kirkwall, and was deposed from a different city of the Free Marches.

I hijacked the OP's post to point out the new Exiled Prince Webpage. You can see screenshots and concept art, watch the video and read a new Sebastian Vael short story written by David Gaider.

WOOT!!! thanks Chris

This addresses the concern about his family being deposed by the latest Viscount. My previous theory has proven correct: Sebastian Vael is not the prince of Kirkwall, but rather is from the city state of Starkhaven instead. Sebastian's royalty does not interfere with you becoming the Viscount of Virkwall, or keeping the current Viscount on the throne.

Shale was very much a part of the whole game, but was pulled to make more money.
Before you go around saying how much you hate this business strategy and that business tactic, get your facts straight. (I hope I'm not coming off antagonistic or malicious as that's not my intent)
Shale was being made to be part of the main game, but eventually had to be cut due to time constraints(much like the Human Commoner Origin that was to be part of DAO).
This was at the time when DAO was to be PC only. When they decided to port it to consoles, they had many extra months till the new release date.
In that time, they decided to bring back Shale, finish up her story and everything that had to do with her integration to the plot, and added her in as Day One DLC(since the PC version was already complete so they couldn't just put her into the existing game).
That's why she was free to those who bought the game new.
The reason some people had to pay for her is because the devs had to do extra work to get her ready in time, and they deserve compensation. And what better compensation than money?
As for Sebastian, Sebastian seems to be a character that was supposed to be included in the main game outright.
Since he is Day One DLC and free for those who pre-ordered in time, I am inclined to believe that this is a similar case to Shale's situation.
As any game developer will tell you, DLC's are not taken out of the main game so they can sell them separately.
(If you want to see DLC that is taken out of the game for an extra buck, look up the Black Dye issue with Fable III where you had to pay extra just to use the color black for your clothes)
Early DLC's like Sebastian are DLC's that were supposed to be part of the main game but couldn't make the cut. Rather than ditch them entirely, they decided to finish them up and release them later. The free charge being a thank you to those who pre-order/buy new(which makes sense since they were supposed to be part of the game anyway) and the charges of $5-7 being there for those who buy later(which makes sense because the devs are putting in extra work they wouldn't of had to to get the DLC's out).
Later DLC's like Awakening are DLC's that were definitely not meant to be part of the main game but were made to keep fans interested in the game and playing said game. Obviously those aren't free, but I don't need to reiterate why.
So before you go around saying, "I hate this" and "I hate that", you might want to see the situation from a game developer's point of view.
Gamers aren't the only ones a business has to think about when selling games.
Good post and good point, but sadly people only see what they wanted to see, and reason was not what they want to see in this case.
