Hi! Just stepping in real quick to see what y'all thought about the chaste romance. I myself am confused because isn't that in essence, a friendship? Just having a hard time wrapping my head around the terms "chaste romance" and even wondered if they aren't pulling our collective legs...

Yes, it was in the super spoiler thread but I believe they changed/updated that part because the part about taking his vows seemed to be open to interpretation. Some were reading vows as marriage vows, others were reading it as chantry vows. I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Chaste romance is in essence a close friendship if it leads nowhere. So the LI tag seems wrong somehow, unless it's a 'he leads you on then dumps you because of his vows' romance similar to Alistair if you weren't a human noble in origins and made him king.

It feels more to me like he's the Avaline equivalent someone you can flirt with, maybe more than Avaline which is why the guide felt he was more of a LI but not a full LI. While sex is not necessary in the game with him, for a relationship to work, for most people, there needs to be a direction to it that it will progress beyond friendship and has a future of some sort at least hinted at. I find it odd that a LI in the game would not offer this if he were meant to be a romance option.

But it remains to be seen how they play it, but for all the Seb fans I wouldn't get your hopes too high about him abandoning those vows from what's been revealed so far

Pretty sure 'chaste' just means there won't be sex involved. Doesn't mean the guy isn't going to get a full romance track - the culmination scene may simply be cuddling or something of that nature. To be honest, I'm starting to like that aspect of the romance. It's not the norm.

I'm just going to step out of the shadows for a moment to address this and my perceptions of the situation.

It seems to me that "chaste romance" is essentially that: a romance that does not include the sex.  It would likely include everything else that you get in the other romances (i.e. special dialogue, cutscenes, etc.), making it more than just flirt lines, but the night before the climactic event wouldn't be sexual.  For those who have played the first Mass Effect, think of it as a romance where you didn't sleep with Ash/Kaidan/Liara the night before Ilos.  You still have the meaningful talk, you still got the emotional locker scene, and the other character is still your LI.  You just didn't have sex (or, really, much other physical interaction during the course of the game).  I imagine that a romance with Seb would be something akin to that sort of scenario.

Yes, but surely anything other than friendship is breaking his vows anyway... Why are priests meant to be chaste? Because they commit themselves to the religion they follow body and soul, any form of relationship outside of friendship is breaking this vow anyway to a degree. That is why it can only ever be friendship if he doesn't at least stretch his vows.

edit...just to add I don't actually mind either way lol I had no intention of romancing seb, I just find the whole thing a bit odd.

That's quite true, and I've thought of that myself. Maybe he takes his chastity vows far more seriously? I have no ideas. We'll just have to wait until the game comes out.

Huh. Interesting. I was kind of mehhhh about him at first but after that wicked short story I'm way more intrigued.

I wonder if the only way you can really romance him is if you take the big meanie path and let this desire demon business overtake him - if that is what's really afflicting him as I could be interpreting it wrong (no spoilz plz). The good option leads to him keeping his chastity but losing his love. That would seem right up Gaider's alley, too. You know. No happy perfect sunshine robot unicorn endings and all that.

I wouldn't even complain if they made a DLC girl LI for the guys and gave her eight sex scenes. I'm personally not interested in sex scenes. At least, not explicit ones, as they're often too forced and saccharine.

I don't see a difference between chaste forever and those alien sex scenes where it's just mind melding (Garrus included). It can be romantic and fulfilling without interlocking genitals, ppl.

i think you'll find that most people aren't complaining about no sex scenes in the game, they're concerned about the implications of the whole 'chaste' thing for it leading to a lasting relationship after the game. Also it's not so much a complaint as most posters seem happy with the fact he's a LI, more confusion as to how it is.

Again, I don't see a difference between this no-sex-forever and alien no-sex-forever. If indeed that is the case. Sebastian's chastity is completely self-imposed, and if he's going to start murdering people, he could justify sex, too. The "chaste" thing is because the developers didn't have the time/money to create a sex scene in the game. That's ALL that line in the guide is saying: don't expect a sex scene in the game.

I imagine they will, they wouldn't miss out on that opportunity It may even be made and waiting to be released in the future, I'd imagine making a character like that who would integrate well with the world would work better if they made it the same time as the game so they had all the voice actors on hand, rather than trying to shoehorn them in later.

If anything, maybe the way they've balanced it is this: 

Guys: Morrigan, it ends badly
Girls: Alistair, it ends badly unless you were a human noble

So we were a bit better off in the beginning, but then guys got the "apology" of the Witch Hunt DLC. That still leaves us a bit disadvantaged. It might be that this time, Aveline is what she is, and Sebastian is sort of an "apology" for the girls who played elves and dwarves and got flatly and painfully dumped. A second chance to be a Queen. That seems more likely to me than yet ANOTHER "Haha, no crown for you!" moment.

Maybe he refuses to be with you until he gets his throne back or something, but I don't think he is a bait and switch option. I think both males and females have two stable options whom you can romance as long as you read their personality right, and two unstable options where you really have to work to get them.

In any case, I can't see Sebastian being a "romance" where you can't ever kiss or touch lest it lead to the temptation for sex. A man who breaks his vows enough to be King, but makes absolutely NO allowance for children and heirs ever? Unless, as I mentioned earlier, he bedded someone and it led to children anyway, but if that's the case then why was he shut up in the Chantry in the first place? Wouldn't his family check something like that? Does not compute! He has to have sex at some point, I'm voting that it's just not on-camera. That's the only thing that makes any logical sense.
