You realise theres what, 1 MMO on consoles compared to the hundreds on PCs... right? Besides its in no way your game, you have no say in it other than to not buy it if you dont like it. If theres 100 people who want multiplayer but only one who wants single player who do you think theyll make a game for?

Damn... all the arguments against multiplayer make so much more sense...

I was kind of banking on the whole "spiritual successor to NWN" thing pulling through for me.

Oh well, whether it has online or not I'm going to have fun posting my stats and stuff online.

Multiplayer like in NWN, sure. MMO... No... Just no.

What is it with those multiplayer lovers spamming these forums every once in a while? You get a new fantasy MMO every three months or so where you can mindlessly kill each other for ever. We had to wait for two years, since the Witcher was released, to see a decent fantasy RPG again. Can't you leave us in peace?

I hope for multiplayer like the NWN games. If it's an MMO I'll gladly pass. Thanks.

It is extremely unlikely that Dragon Age: Origins will have multiplayer patched in or added in an expansion.

It is fairly likely that another game in the franchise might have some form of multiplayer, assuming Origins does well and the franchise continues.

I feel a bit as if everytime this topic comes up, even though a bunch of people say "it's unlikely that DAO will have multiplayer", which is by all means true, for some reason a bunch of people also come in wailing that multiplayer ruins games. I've been a part of this community for the better of 7 years, what is going on here?

Did NWN really rape your grandchildren?

I never played that game, thought it looked stupid...  I do however agree with what you said.  :D

TBH I have found that the last great rpg's to me have been ff 7 and 8, kindom hearts, The elder Scrolls 3 morrowind and 4 oblivion and Mass Effect.
I miss games like that. :crying:

I really wish more games would concentrate on SP instead of a watered down game just to add a mp mode.

no chance? Way to be a downer, man.

I think the mass request for online play thus far will lead to some kind of online feature. They sure could please a lot of people if they let them fight with or against their friends online.

I also think it would be cool if you could cross-system play. EX: I own DO: A on the PC, but I wanna play with my buddy who has it fro Xbox, no problem! Just enter his gamertag and whatever else they might need and BAM! I can play with my buddy! that's probably harder to do than one would expect though... Oh well. I'm a hopefull, and I hope they add in some sweet multiplayer stuff.

Sorry, man. Bioware expected that people would want Online play. They knew they were releasing a toolset. They also knew that releasing a toolset would draw paralells to Neverwinter Nights. So they knew people would expect/want Online play. They made that decision. There will likely be no online play in the foreseeable future.

I think what ever this unannounced next project is will cover that. They have five internal teams from what we where told, and now they are working in collaboration with Mythic under one management team. MMO stuff is being done in Texas and the RPG stuff is being done in Alberta but they share resources a lot and work for the same team manager. The guy who founded Bioware actually :D

Let DAO be what it is and lets see what the next project is.

Yes?

But really, I have nothing against NWN-style multiplayer, but I've about had it with flavor of the month MMOs. I think it's ridiculous that they all mirror WoW (because it was successful). I also hate how after UO came out and MMOs started to become the new **** (thanks Manson! Also, why are the forums for an MA rated game censored?), single player RPGs died out. I can remember them existing in droves before UO and EQ got popular, but afterwards... can count the memorable ones on about two fingers.

Yes there will eventually be multi-player, but it won't be DA:O it will be DA:RTS, the first real time strategy set in the DA universe.... hey I can hope can't I. Whats better than 1 Templar, an army of them!

This

Just trust us. I've played MMOs for 8 years. I've been playing video games since I was 4. I'm studying to be a theoretical physicist. I'm not an idiot, turning this game into an MMO would be horrible.

Personally, I would not like to see an MMO version of this game (World of Dragonage?) The thought just makes me shudder.

What might have been good to implement is a system to be able to play with a friend(s) - think Diablo.

I think any gains in gameplay by making an MMO style game out of DA would ruin any story-driven RPG apects. IMHO, MMOs have gotten better at telling a story but they are still not there yet. In an MMO environment, you are almost forced into a leveling frenzy just to keep up with friends and guild mates so you can participate in the "end-game." The result (for me anyway) was barely reading quest text. So, I always felt extremely disconnected from the game.

I am excited about this game because I can finally relax and go at my own pace, making sure to immerse myself in the full story. And Bioware are masters of storytelling so it should be a great experience.

God I hope BW won't waste their resources creating yet another MMO, MMO's are to video games what pop is to music... The vast majority of them are mindlessly watered down drivel designed to appeal to the lowest common denominator, overdesigned chat clients, gach. I have real, actual friends, thank you very much.

Btw, I don't know if I can forgive Bioware for turning the KOTOR franchise into an MMO. What a horrible decision IMHO. Not for them and their pocketbooks obviously, but for those of us who love Star Wars and love the KOTOR games, it's horrible and despicable. Please don't do this to Dragon Age.

I doubt Dragonage will be made an MMO. its a brand new world meaning they have plenty to write and design. though i wish the new star wars game wasnt MMO i actually like how it looks. Its suppose to be the WoW killer which appeals to me too

Does anyone think they might put in some online play kindve like a MMO type deal?  Because that would be awsome!  I'm getting the game anyways but how badass would that be if you could PvP or something you know.
Wouldn't even mind paying a subscription fee, but thats just my opinion.  At any length the game looks amazing KEEP IT UP BIOWARE!  Love the Cinematics you guys do.:o

They should let random players online hijack members in your party. Thats the best way to implement online play.

Spiritual Successor to BG I think :) not NWN.

Personally I always thought story driven RPGs (as opposed to action RPGs) make horrible Multilayer games.

That's entirely true, nothing has been said and if there was going to be any decisions made I would assume it would be done after launch. Althrough the idea of it being a possibility makes me a much happier person than the thought that we will *never* get a worthwhile successor to NWN.

I disagree there, plans for expansions and sequels are already under-way before the game comes out. That way they have something to go on when it does get released and sells well. So DA:O comes out the 3rd sells 3 million copies and whatever expansion on the drawing board gets green-lighted. Now since Bioware has expressly denied interest in a multiplayer component, the expansion they will be working on won't include multiplayer. Maybe the next one, if the first expansion and DA:O both sold well but any formal expansion will probably include other things that Bioware wanted to build on or that players wanted, such as maybe 2 new Origins.

No, online gaming is not needed, nothing beats a deep single player game, online gaming = overrated cheese fests.
