With the apparent ease of kiting (as demonstrated by the demo), do you guys think there is a need to invest many points into cunning?
If not for Defense, that at the very least yes for other inate Rogue abilities.

Well the devs said that there's all shapes and sizes of dual daggers, I'm sure there will be something sword-ish, too.
will we be able to mix and match or do they have to be the same?

Rogue has always been my favourite, but the recent info on other classes gave me a little bit of a crisis of faith. That has now changed.

I had one PC who was a bit of a thief (she went on to become queen of Ferelden, heh) but it was more of a roleplay thing. The Slim Couldry quests were kind of odd- they could have been more integrated- but they were decently lucrative. Otherwise there wasn't much use in pickpocketing someone for a potion you already had a million of, or for a few coppers.Teclo wrote...
Am I the only one who likes rogues because they steal everything that isn't nailed down (and if it is, they steal the nails then steal it)? And that it's a great way to play a non-good character without murdering everything in sight? I felt a little disappointed in DA:O with that element of rogues (though replaying as a warrior is really making me realise how many dungeon chests are locked) so now that DA2 is set almost entirely in a large city, I'm hoping for some cool housebreaking and pickpocketing diversions (like more expanded versions of the series of thief quests in Denerim).

Every time I see someone complain about the animations, I'm going to go outside and shoot a cat. Would him jumping really far be better if he had Spanglethorne's Magical Boots of Preposterous Leaping +4?
Wait, you mean half the characters aren't wearing Spanglethorne's Magical Boots of Preposterous Leaping +4?

Matching might be better than mixing if Set bonuses apply to Dual Daggers.

But according to the demo, cunning determines rogues' aptitude for picking locks and disarming traps. It also increases the damage of crits but that alone isn't worth putting points into cunning. With the ability to kite around enemies, defense seems less important too.

Yep, that's the sort of thing that bothered me. In games like the Morrowind and Oblivion, for all their failings, whatever class you play as is realised in their fullness. Mages aren't just glass cannons, thieves aren't just back-stabbing damage-dealers who can disarm traps when they occassionally pop up, warriors aren't ju-... no, actually warriors are still rampaging, one-tone killing machines. Same as in Arcanum; I loved sneaking into shopkeepers' homes at night as they slept and stealing their entire inventory. But in DA, as you say, you get some loose change and the odd crafting item. There was the odd special item, as listed on the Wikia, but it didn't really make up for all the junk.Addai67 wrote...

So what is kiting then? So far I was just assuming it meant having the person that the enemies are after just run around while everyone else attacks the enemies, but now you're talking about doing it solo...Joy Divison wrote...
I haven't played too many RPGs, but kiting seems to be an effective tactic is all of them. Starting with Gazarath in the Kokari Wilds, most of the difficult encounters in DAO can be kited on a solo run.

You can really feel the speed, evasiveness and trickery of the class.
Unfortunately they don't seem to benefit from the improved armor design early ingame. Still wearing skirt armor.
We've seen screenshots with sharper duds and hoods though so hope is not lost.

Sir Isaac Clarke's armor is high tier rogue armor, you can tell from the cunning requirements.
I think bad-ass rogue armor is going to be in the game, I believe Bioware heard our cries for non skirt armor.
So.......... I'm still confused. Have my dreams of a dashing, high level rogue/specialist/BACKSTAB been dashed?

Technically, kiting solo would mean disabling/rooting/stunning the mob with one attack, running back a bit and attacking them. THrowing a slow in there is good and you literally pick away their health.
So in the demo, I had Bethany kite the ogre. Hit it with Winter Grasp which slowed it, ran to other side of the zrea and peppered it with spells until it got close/did attack. This is good when it tries to ram run into you, you can slow it when it reaches its ending of the run and kite.
Wanted to add ...
As a rogue, I can see an archer build doing this pretty easy. Pin down the mob and pepper it to death with arrows and bombs.

Thing is - if you can't kite, you can't avoid fighting either, because you have no chance to run away. So in a sense, the ability to do those two things is related.

Rogues. Many people think of them as merely something to bring along in the party to open locked doors or chests. Sure, they're a little sneaky, but when you could be a mighty two-handed warrior or fireball casting mage, who would want to be a rogue?
Rogues in Dragon Age 2 are far more than "keys to open locks". They are now dual wielding whirlwinds of death suddenly appearing behind opponents to thrust shortswords deep into their backs. Rogues are archers who can literally make death rain from the skies with barrages of arrowed fury.
So if you want a cartwheeling dual wieder or a ranged assasssin, you need to consider Rogues. All that, and they also open locks. Let's see warriors or mages do all that.
Check out the Rogue class Page.
Fixed.... in bold!
