The official explanation is that day one DLCs are made in the time between where the game goes gold and when it's released in stores. You can choose for yourself whether you believe that or not.
Personally I do (They have to work on something in that time and DLC makes just as much sense as anything else they could be working on).

I would hope that time would be spent hunting and fixing bugs, considering Awakenings still has bugs that haven't been rectified, and probably never will now.

By the way, if this was included with the main game, wouldn't that mean the main game would cost seven dollars more?

So 9 companions is 60 bucks but 10 is 67?  I don't think it would work like that.  If it did, I'd have to seriously reconsider giving a game company my money.

There is seriously too much entitlement in today's gamers, I guess it's a side effect of gaming becoming a more social norm.

I think it's more to do with the fact that RPG'ers feel more entitled.

I mean...we roleplay in the game.  Obviously the more story elements the better, right?  So for us, it's about the idea that we feel a bit cheated in our role play experience- sure, we can finish the GAME without the DLC, but others who fulfill certain requirements or pay extra get a better story than we do.

I completely agree that it sounds petty.  Doesn't change how I feel about it :)

With my signature edition getting messed up and cancelled about a week or so ago I will more than likely pay for the exilled prince dlc on day one. just because that was the main thing i was looking forward to from the signature edition. but in the end im still saving money as when i went into game to preorder the normal version they said i had £20 worth of points on my card, so i get £20 off the game come release now lol.

You're implying that the game cost is based on the number of characters, which implies that content and quests are also based on the number of characters. That's false.
A similar claim would be "So 163 different armor pieces and weapons is 60 bucks, but 170 is 67?" And yet, we can all accept a full custom armor with weapons as a decent DLC (depending on quality, of course).

I don't think you can point to any single (or even two) aspects of the game and label it as "that's where the cost came from!"

Because they wanted people to have an optional companion and want to make more money?

By the time this game is done and moved on to the third you will all pay another 60 in DLC, genius marketing I however will be laughing and consider the story over when hawk kills the evil qunari at the end.

If DLC didn't exist, The Exiled Prince would have just been an idea that didn't make the cut.

Or it would have been on the disk like everything else.

It's to make more money.  That's what businesses do.  I can accept that. But since BIoware don't have the balls to admit this I can only assume that they feel it is an unethical practice.  With that in mind I loathe them for it, not because milking more money is necessarily shady, but because they think it's shady and do it anyway.

It doesnt even need to be said. To think it does it rediculous. Companies like Bioware are in business to make money. Shocking, isnt it?

That's sorta what I said.

However, Biowares tends to claim this isn't the case.  In fact, they go out of their way to lie about it.  Like with Shale. Just wait. They'll have some bull**** excuse for why Sebastian is day one DLC.  For whatever reason they want people to think they are some kind of saints. I love how they sit back letting people **** on EA. As if Bioware staff are slaves forced to maximize profits against their will.

It's just a marketing strategy. Also, EA is using this to compete with steam as direct download service.

Isn’t that part of project 10 dollar? if you buy the game new you should have no problem. Its to provide incentive to buy new rather than used copies or borrowing it.
Regardless they can do whatever the hell they want so long as they don’t false advertise. It’s out choice whether we buy it or not. If they start being cheep bastards then they will lose sales because people won't buy.
Don’t see why they have to put it in the game just because they finished it before release anyway if it was always planned as dlc and so long as it has no real bearing on the main plot (Like if say before the final boss the game ends and you get a message saying "if you want to see the ending you have to buy this DLC! only $9.99" That would be pushing it) . Now if they charged you for a patch that would be a different matter.

I'm sort of surprised that this is new to everyone on these boards.

Simple, pre-ordered the game as suggested and got the signature copy with the extra content and paying the same price as a regular edition.

Project Ten Dollar. Google it. It only affects people who are cheap and buy games pre-owned.

Yeah, no. It only affects those that didn't pre order the game months in advance.

If this was available the entire time before luanch it would be more pluasible but not everyone follows game development so closely.

Nope. Only those that buy used. Project $10 is for new copies. That's why it is called Project $10. Pre-order incentives have been around for years.

Well EA... bah. But BioWare is my favorite so I don't mind forking it over. Except on DA Legends... No way.

Huh? Bio never said any such thing. Sebastian was always intended as DLC, and was never stripped from the game.

Sure, they budgeted for DLC with the idea of making profit from that DLC. So frigging what?

Before January there was hardly enough information and images of DA2 to warrant most people to pre-order it. So in other words, Bioware is 'rewarding' those who order their games out of dedication rather than out of interest.

That said, I have no problems with DLC, I just find Bioware's method of releasing these DLCs questionable. Since this DLC is obviously done before release, why was it simply not just added to the original game.

Because they made the DLC to make money and to get people to preorder, which gets them money through more shelf space at retailers and possibly a better split with them.

Why should they abandon that plan and instead throw it onto the disc for everybody?

I bought a brand new car the other day. When I was about to drive away the company I bought it off had the gall to offer me seat warmers for $30 dollars! Originally the seat warmers were only for anyone that had paid up front for the cars but the company was nice enough to offer them to everyone. But seeing I didn't pay for the car before it was released I demand I get those seat warmers for free! It is unfair on me that I should have to pay for something that was offered to me as an optional extra! ... <_<

Suuuuuuure he wasn't a part of the story from the get go.  Since they intentional left him off the disk for DLC purposes, that make all the difference. Posted Image

Why can't they just say, "We want more of your money"?  I have nothing against them wanting more money.  Do do have something against people doing things that THEY FEEL IS SHADY because it is a reflection of their character. Stop focusing on the right or wrongness of DLC. That's not what I'm talking about.

Look, I'm not saying they shouldn't charge for DLC, and I understand they need to make a profit, that's all fine and dandy. I said I questioned their method of releasing the DLC the moment the game came out because it was obviously done well before the game's release.

Let me put it like this, it would be the same if I created a full-length game, decided to cut out a big chunk of it, released the game and THEN had the balls to ask you to pay for the chunk I decided to rip out of the game the moment the game was released, and even more so make it seem like I was courteous by giving you this chunk of the game for free if you decided to pre-order my game while have very limited information on it.

Or, I sell you a glass of lemonade for $1.00 and have the balls to make you pay 10 cents for icecubes when I hand you the glass.
