Dragon Age: Origins
 •  1,000,000 Words
 •  1,000 Cinematics
 •  1,000 Characters
 •  56,000 Spoken Lines
 •  60 Hours of Gameplay

Dragon Age II
 •  400,000 Words
 •  2,500 Cinematics
 •  500 Characters
 •  38,000 Spoken Lines
 •  40 Hours of Gameplay

I probably should sell my preordered Signatur Edition on Ebay and wait for the Ultimate Edition. Im definitley dissapointed. I really hope they wont cut ME3 in half and sell it for the same money. Posted Image

Assuming gameplay accounts for everything else, a drop from 60 to 40 hours in gameplay means it's 1/3 shorter, not 1/2.

hmm just becuase some of those numbers are smaller doesnt mean anything.
Bioware has said that its shorter than DA:O but longer than ME2. You want to be a troll thats fine, but have fun with no game to play on the 8th.

40 hours is still pretty long. DAO dragged a little in certain parts, like the deep roads.

It has more than twice the cinematics. It's not going to be "half as short" as DA:O unless you skip all the cutscenes and dialogue.

This is not a bad thing in my opinion. Especially if they have more variation when it comes to quests (which I'm hoping for). There were a lot of quests in DAO that felt very tedious and repeatable after a while.

Will it have much replayability? What about other DLC campaigns?

40/60 = 2/3 = 66%. Some of the stuff that got cut out (aka the missing 34%) probably relates to the origins, but in any case...bye?

EDIT : Amended the numbers because my math was fail!

Half of 60 is 30.

But yes DA2 is a game that seems to lack ambition to even live up to it's sire, let alone exceed it.

Last time I checked 40 was two thirds of 60...but maybe it's changed since...

2/3 isn't 50%... but it's not 75% either. Posted Image

Guys are you serious? 40 hours compared to 60 hours is nothing...It all depends on if you take your time and how you play it. If you rush through on easy mode in Origins, skipping dialouge, it will be probably 14 hours long.

While I agree with you, I just want to point out that 2/3= 66%.Posted Image

lol oh god, more half asssed reasons to completely panic and cry hystericaly, the boards were lacking that for a whole 5 minutes

Cause clearly jumping to conclusions over the numbers of chat & cut scenes is a clear indicator the games ruined and you should sell your copy lol, really who buys video games for gameplay anyway? 40 hours for a game is clearly a giant rip off, what with call of duty have'n 5 hour campaigns and all, 40 hours is practicly sacrilage! you go burn your copy of da2 and protest hardcore at bioware's offices while the sane people enjoy their copy of DA2

umm no offence intended but 2/3 = 66.6% not 75%.

With twenty less hours, DAII, to be on par with DAO, should have:

Words: 666,666
Lines: 37,333
Characters: 666

The amount of lines bugs me, though. A voiced character should add an incredible amount of lines. I don't know if they omitted the PC, or what.

I don't see how rushing through Origins makes DA2 any longer.. People seem to have this idea that Origins had a lot of filler combat, well so has every Bioware game from the year dot. But somehow they expect DA2 to be different....

Very unlikely and since half of the PC lines are redundant it's even worse than the numbers make it look

I don't understand why people are so worked up about the length of the game. If it has a good story and good gameplay, why should length matter?
If the first book in a series is 400 pages and a great read, but the second book is 300 pages, does that inherently mean the second book is bad? No. -_-

The article this links to says it all: "Although in defense of Dragon Age II, its predecessor was in development for five years compared to around its two years."

Personally, I still believe BioWare will come up with the goods. They've never let me down yet.

I'm a sucker for immersion, so I loved DA:O to death for it's length. That said, I guess it's better this way: who would want to wait three to five years for the next full installation?

Btw, I'm also a bit of a completionist, so it took me 90 hours to finish my first playthrough. I just did a speedy playthrough in no less than 63 hours, so I'm pretty confident my first playthrough will be 50-60 hours...

Could you tell Lord of the Rings in one book ?
Would you rather have Lord of the Rings, or the Hobbit ?

I rest my case.

It's just that Dragon Age Origins was really, really, REALLY big. And it totally dragged on several instances. The amount of pointless side-quests devoid of fun was astonishing. Such a huge decrease amazes me, but I really don't mind some streamlining. Origins at times felt a bit too much like a chore, as in "please, let this freaking dungeon be over" or "My goodness, I've been investigating this NPC's conversation choices for the last 6 minutes and I haven't been even mildly interested by anything the guy has to say".

It was deep and engaging, but it was setting an entire mythos, while this one keeps the ball rolling in a much more contained environment. This one is a streamlined game with streamlined storytelling. Better, worse, we have to wait and see, but if it is to Origins what Mass Effect 2 was to the first, I'm glad that's the direction they went for. I dreaded the notion of replaying ME1 or Origins, due to sheer length and some particularly annoying sections here and there.

Besides, DLC. I used to have several gripes with it, but hey, it's more content I'll enjoy, so heck, might as well enjoy the ride. Here's to hoping they add plenty of content that adds length to those looking for length, making those that don't want to engage on endless menu-fiddling and conversation-studying actually SEE the ending.

Oh boy.

Don't buy it,if it's game breaking for you.
