The original Dragon Age had a rediculously long development time. DA2 on the other hand could have used a little more. But these numbers shown for DA2 look rather good for the time they spend on it. Certainly better then 99% of all other games out there.
You hold Bioware up to a standard they, and they alone, created. Few other wRPG can live up to this 'bioware standard'. So you wont get DA2 until the ultimate edition is out. Yet you will get other games such as The Witcher 2 and Dues Ex:HR I think?Or you will simply buy no games at all? Because I'm certain no game can compete with the DA:O figures.

Guys are you serious? 40 hours compared to 60 hours is nothing...It all depends on if you take your time and how you play it. If you rush through on easy mode in Origins, skipping dialouge, it will be probably 14 hours long.
couldn't say it better origins for me = 14 hours rushed or 27when doing slow pace with a little skipped talking
done all side quests 2

Second: Does that news post take in consideration things like Awakening, Warden's Keep, Return to Ostagar, Stone Prisoner and Witch Hunt?

hmm just becuase some of those numbers are smaller doesnt mean anything.
Yes, it does. It means the game is smaller. Which is a bad thing. More than that, the fact that DA2 has a lower proportion of actual words and characters but a higher proportion of cut-scenes, means that even in the reduced length, it is less of a game where I am in control, and more of a movie where I sit back and watch.
Thank you to the OP for sharing the numbers. Good to know.

First and foremost is that in DA:O we had a lot of Origins stories which all of them contained a lot of Dialogue.

Nope.

Now, having 40% the wordcount is distressing, but... well, we'll just have to see.

Lesser dialogue doesn't matter, as it appears there is more than double the cinematic.

In other news, CDprojekt announced that The Witcher 2 will be shorter than the first, but when they make a game shorter, it's fine, cause that's how RPG fans are

you kidding me? that's amazing2,500 cinematics compared to a miniscule 1,000 for DAO
DA2 completely blows away DAO in my eyesyou know what it means?
That I would spend more of my time watching cutscenes in DAII, rather than actually controlling my character?

Was long, but quite very satisfying for me to play even if I only did it twice.

I dont know the exact length, but they said they're taking out the mundane side quests.
Which is EXACTLY what Bioware is doing, but when Bioware does it, it's cause they're pandering to console kids
When The Witcher does it, it's the best RPG in the history of FOREVARZZZZ
Same thing with the combat systems
Somehow Witcher fans consider DA2 combat to be hack and slash, but when the witcher combat consists of unending spaming of the left mouse button, it's the best RPG combat in FOREVARZZZZ

However you look at it, no matter if your play times match those posted or not, you are looking at a lot less play time in DA2 than in DA. Is that a bad thing? Depends if you put quantity over quality, and I for one cant judge the quality until I have the game.

Sounds like you rushed the game and played on easy, my first run was 59 hours but i didn't do everything but did not rush, when i tried rushing it i did in 20 hours but rushing the game isn't even fun so why would you do it?Alaric123 wrote...

Best to enjoy your games, rushing makes the game so un-interesting.

Dragon Age: Origins
• 1,000,000 Words
• 1,000 Cinematics
• 1,000 Characters
• 56,000 Spoken Lines
• 60 Hours of Gameplay
Dragon Age II
• 400,000 Words
• 2,500 Cinematics
• 500 Characters
• 38,000 Spoken Lines
• 40 Hours of Gameplay
I probably should sell my preordered Signatur Edition on Ebay and wait for the Ultimate Edition. Im definitley dissapointed. I really hope they wont cut ME3 in half and sell it for the same money. [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/wondering.png[/smilie]
And IMO this is a good move. DAO was too long. There was a lot of stuff that could have been cut out. Fade and a large part of the Deep roads for example. And that is coming from a guy who beat Origins over 15 times.

Don't worry, they're planning to sell the other half of DA2 in bits and pieces as DLC.
