Alright I'm so tired of this.
I have been at this for two weeks, I bought the game, installed it, and got the General Protection Fault error on start up. After which, not to let my money go to waste, I torrented the game and tried several different downloads of it. I have searched dozens upon dozens of forums and I see hundreds of posts all with this error and NONE have offered a solution. From running it in administrator mode, configuration utilities, updating drivers, compatibility mode, NOTHING has worked.

WHAT. THE. ****. IS IT.

I can see a few problems.
1) You obviously didnt bother reading anything on these forums, or you would have noticed the forums description.

Mass Effect 1 PC & Xbox 360 Tech Support
This forum is for fans and owners of Mass Effect 1 on PC and Xbox 360 to assist each other with technical questions. Official game support is provided by Electronic Arts or Microsoft, but fans are encouraged to try to assist each other here.

2) You also missed the post stickied at the top of the forum titled "How to report a problem with your PC version of Mass Effect 1". Link here;
http://social.biowar...1/index/2012975
This tells you what information you need to provide if you want us to help you out. If you want us to guess at the problem, then the most accurate guess we can make is PEBKAC.
3) You are ranting at people who arent paid to care. Change your tone, or contact EA.

You exaggerated by a large factor.  There are 104 topics for this particular error message, and the majority are because of another nVIDIA failure.  Almost none have anything to do with a game player using a Radeon.

Almost all of them have the same solution.  Stop using bad nVIDIA drivers and use one that is either older than about three and a half years ago, or newer than about a year and a half ago.

Last, admitting to accessing pirate sites for downloads is the surest way I know of to be banned from forum participation.

If you had used simple logic you would have realised if the retail version of the game is not working for some reason then an illegal copy of the game definately won't work. Illegal copies have all sorts of bugs and more often than not are packaged with viruses that will harm your computer don't download them for your own good.

Next time before getting all upset and downloading copies of the game just come ask for help. The problem you were having was so simply solved that you just wasted so much time instead of rolling back your drivers and getting on with enjoying the game.
