Sure, but there are other ways around that. Like not calling them difficulty levels, or not using falsely descriptive names like "Hard".Maconbar wrote...
That's great but can you see why BW wouldn't want to officially publish a feature whereby Easy was harder than Hard?

Aiming saves lives...back in the Baldur's Gate days we didn't get targeting reticles.

I think ideally, just create the toggle, and have it naturally be off. The die hards who want it can always flip it on.

Well...Casual and easy mean just that...Every precaution has been taken so you don't die tho I look down on people who don't play on hard or nightmare.
They are not real gamers in thy eyes.
I agree with OP that the only realistic mode is Nightmare since Irl your party would take the full damage of a spell.
Thanks for the clarification. Nice to know I am not a "real gamer." Seriously, thanks for explaining that I only "thought" I was a gamer, even though I have been playing video games since about 1980.

I take it from your comment I'm suppose to feel terrible and silly about my comment?
Well after...you know what...
Happy to pass on my wisdom anytime bro

On normal in Origins (which if im not mistaken had 50% FF damage) i felt like i was being tactical with my AOE spells due to the danger of friendly fire.... wether that was an illusion or not it made the game more enjoyable for me.
Edit: Ha loving that definition of fact.... er i thought it was something that has actual existence, a matter of objective reality but whatever

I'm not even going to bother pointing out just how many things are wrong with this post, I'll just let it speak for itself.

Dear Bioware,
I quite enjoyed Origins, and have been looking forward to Dragon Age 2 although not following development too closely as I have other things to do. Anyhow I am deeply disturbed that you have deemed your target audience to be too stupid to comprehend the implications of a Freindly Fire toggle. I can see from the demo the enormous amount of work which has gone into the combat to make it intense and visceral, however being able to drop a fireball onto my tank surrounded by enemies just totally kills any type of immersion for me. While I understand that FF will be ON in Nightmare mode - I don't have any real desire to micro my entire party, and farm massive amounts of gold to pay for the amount of cunsumables I will require to plow through the HP inflated hordes of enemies - this is a game after all, meant for enjoyment after a long day at work.
Please I implore you devs, consider implementing a Freindly Fire toggle in your first patch. People who are too stupid to utilise such a toggle probably won't figure out how to patch the game anyhow so I think this would be a win/win situation.
Also I would like to request the rest of the community to join me in boycotting purchasing the game until such point that a Freindly Fire toggle is implemented. I really do feel quite depressed that the devs view me, and the rest of the world as too stupid to make this decision ourselves.

Concerned Fan
Play it on Nightmare then.

I criticized this game to death....but i am non with you on this....
If you like friendly fire you may have it playing nightmare....this option hasn't been stripped down....
Party customization was....but i have ranted already a lot about this and maybe modders will fix it....

I, for example, don't have any desire to have nightmarish combats, but I would like to see some effect if I throw a fireball in the middle of my party.

I don't understand why they didn't put a slider to set the effectiveness of friendly fire regardless of the overall difficulty of the combat. Why the two things must be necessarily linked?

Exactly. Especially since friendly fire in on, when enemies casts spells.
