After playing the demo and seeing the changes to the game i decided that the changes to DA2 are a bit to drastic for my tastes, i just went ahead saved my money and cancelled my pre order. I came to this conclusion based in part on the demo with the lack of a viable mage healer build. I have a creation tree but it is useless and that is probably the major reason i am cancelling because the developers and apparently the rest of the audience are ok with this change. Removing the viable mage healer build from DA2 is a mistake in my opinion, shoe horns the class into one play style which is sad considering the possibilities for many different builds brings and with those builds the many different ways in which an encounter can be dealt with. As is seems now the only viable tactic (the only one i was able to beat the demo with as a mage) is to run around in circles while the mob in question chases me, all the while the party is hot on it's heels hacking away at the creature who never seems to notice. I can handle a lack of realism, hell fire from my fingertips is unrealistic enough, but the combat has apparently turned into a button mashing or kiting fest, and well that is going to get old, it did in the demo long before the ogre was killed.

Playing the demo i was unable to beat it with a mage class until i ran around the entire time kiting the ogre in one very large circle until the rest of the party finally killed the ogre. All that i had to do was enough DPS to continue to draw the ogre's aggro while the rest of the party killed it. While i was happy in that i finally beat the ogre in the demo i was not happy with the way i was forced to do it. Running around in a big circle for 5 to 10 minutes was not entertaining, i did not enjoy myself and i am not going to pay 60 plus dollars for a software title that has this kind of tactic as a core mechanic. The tank and spank mechanic seems to have been completely removed and with it the need for any sort of party balance, bring all DPS and hope you do enough damage while your character flies around on the map like a bee hopping from flower to flower, i actually had this analogy come to me as i was kiting the orge, not one i would have preffered, but there it was.

In the end the honk kong chop suey flick combat animations, coupled with a complete lack of a viable healer class and the running in a circles combat mechanic were the three things that changed my mind about the title. I will say i am really glad for the demo as it saved me 60 dollars. I may possibly look at the game in the future once a fix has been made either mods or developer where the healer is a viable build that is of course depending on what if anything there is that DA2 will compete against.

A) Let's show some respect for other posters, even if you don't agree with them. Coming into a thread and throwing around insults and vitriol isn't cool, folks.

B) There's already a demo feedback thread. Please use that.
