Bioware are making more money then ever. Just because people like you wish the video game industry and RPG games was still in the nineties doesn't mean everybody else does. More Bioware fans liked ME2 then ME1. Bioware got more critical and commercial sucess from ME2 then from ME1. You really think they don't have 3 years left?Gatt9 wrote...

If i'd known back then just how butchered and generic the ME2 system had been made, I would have rented it instead of buying it.
This.
I bought it day one, and was horrified to discover they'd taken a fine RPG and turned it into a really crappy TPS. I struggled to play it, but somewhere around when I realized that Quake's AI was an order of magnitude better, and the constant contradiction and nonsense in the story became glaring, I just gave up.
I really feel I was ripped off my $60.
I also really feel that Bioware's gone straight downhill since EA took over, quality has gone to crap and suddenly they're trying to imitate shooters instead of making RPGs.
I don't think they've got 3 years left.

I am not a fan of shooters and ME2 is more a shooter than ME1 was.
I only paid $20 for ME2 on Steam but it will cost another $34 for all the DLC (which I probably won't buy). However, when I think about possibly spending $94 on ME2 ($60+$34) then I would certainly consider that too much for one game.
I have never realized before just how much games have gone up in price this console generation. It isn't just the $10 rise from $50 to $60, it's the added cost of the DLC. In the end, how many games (with all their content) cost close to $100? Just something to think about.

They aren't worth arguing with. Mass Effect 2 had much better critical reviews. Mass Effect 2 had much better player ratings (as evidenced by polls and meters on sites like ign, gamespot, and uh THIS VERY SITE), and finally, Mass Effect 2 sold better. Thus, by every statistical measure Mass Effect 2 was a better game. The "ME1 is superior in every way" crowd is so backward it isn't even funny.

Whilst I disagree with you, on the vein of DLC, you should at least get the Liara one if you enjoyed ME1 so much.Garak2 wrote...
I am finding it hard to enjoy ME2 as much as ME1. I played through ME1 for the first time last week (without sidequests) and loved it. Then I downloaded ME2 and played ME1 again (NG+ with Sidequests) and imported my character into ME2.

I will concede ME1 is better then ME2 in someways, but overall ME2 is definetly a better game.

That reviewers liked ME2 better than ME1 doesn't really matter when you don't trust professional reviewers. These are the same reviewers who gave Final Fantasy 13 high scores too.
I do care about player reviews, players pay out instead of getting paid to review a game.

Mass Effect 1&2 was well worth full price plus the added price of all the DLCs that have been released. How is this even a reasonable question? There are hundreds of retail game released each year and there are perhaps no more than 10-20 that are actually worth the full $50-60 price.
If Mass Effect 2 were still 50-60 bucks today, I would still say it's worth every cent. The fact you can buy digital version of it for 20 dollars though is mind blowing... the game is still better than 95% of the games that have come out since ME2 was released over a year ago.

Point 1: That is an assumption which you cannot back up in any way, shape, or form. I like Fable 2, but I did not buy Fable 3 because it looked like it was not a good game. And by all accounts, it wasn't.Garak2 wrote...
That ME2 sold better than ME1 can easily be attributed to the greatness of ME1. I bought ME2 because I loved ME1 and I'll bet alot of other people did too. The success of ME3 will depend greatly on how many loved ME2.

Point 2: By high scores do you mean an average of 8.1? cause thats what FF13 average is. That's the review equivalent of a "meh". You can choose not to trust professional reviewers, but I have found through personal experience that the review aggregate is a pretty good indicatior of quality.
Point 3: And the player review scores favor Mass Effect 2. Bon voyage.

Point 1: I don't need to back it up, people know why they chose to buy ME2 and I'll bet alot of them decided to buy it because they loved ME1. Most of the pre-orders probably fall into that category. On the other hand though, you can't prove the opposite either.
Point 2: FF13 was not worth an 8.1, it was really bad. Lost Odyssey got worse reviews than FF13 but was a far better game.
Point 3: I know that and there is no argument here but how many of those players also love every other generic shooter that comes out? If you are a fan of shooters, then sure ME2 is better than ME1.

As a quick thing I pit it is a $ per hour thing, I put movie theaters in at the expensive end of worth it at 10$ an hour per person. I have put near 300 hours into mass effect 2 all of it fun, so even under my stingiest appraisal of $ per hour scenario it is more than worth it. Now degree of fun has bearing as well, I consider my food and booze based expenditures worth it even though I might be blowing well over a $100 in an hour since I had a blast with friends. And on that side while not has amazingly fun as a night at Smuggler's Cove or Hobsans Choice(when not crowded with college kids), etc. with friends it is very fun for a game so every $per hour is worth my standard rate.
On the other hand I have seen plenty of people put their value not on a per hour basis but by the deal they can get. And in that case since discounted versions are available within months sometimes 1/2 off I doubt full price is worth it to them for pretty much any game since all they have to do is wait a bit.

Did the same thing! I went first with the xbox version then found the collectors edition on pc for like 25 dollars from best buy. Basiclly got it free because of my rewards points.MrFob wrote...
Bought 2 copies at almost full price (long story) and it was absolutely worth it. Especially since one was the collectors edition.

For a lot of people I am sure it was. I loved Arena, daggerfall, morrowind, oblivion and put close to as many hours into each of those games as I put into mass effect. Oblivion is a great game, easily woth its money.

Nah I bought the second copy because it was the ultimate edition being sold for 20 dollars. I wanted to play Awakening and the DLCs.
Too bad EA doesn't allow you to gift extra copies of your game... I wanted to give my friend a copy of DAO.

With all the side quests, you can do ME1 in less than 50 hours (I am being generous here). Doing all the sidequests in Morrowind or Oblivion will cost you twice that, easily. I haven't played Arena or Daggerfall.
Of course, that's assuming that you enjoy Oblivion or ME1 enough to do all the sidequests in the first place. This is the flaw in counting hours vs dollars. If you count multiplayer hours then popular FPS are worth thousands of dollars.
