Worth every penny. Not as good as the original, though

Honestly, I love ME1 almost as much as ME1. That comment was a direct response to the ones calling all fans of ME2 Call of Duty fan boys. I only had two problems with ME1, the Mako and the clunky inventory. I agree with some pro ME1 points, but IMHO ME2 was much more fun, and our points are equally valid. Bringing up old sales numbers and false facts like some did in this thread don't help any arguments. The Mako was terrible on all but two planets and it kept a great game from being a masterpiece and it had nothing to do with RPG style play. As far as story criticisms go, I see ME2 as just the first half of a grander story that will be fleshed out in ME3.

This is a deterministic value judgement. no correct answer. But yes I did enjoy ME2, id say i enjoyed it more then ME1 to be honest. So to me, worth every dollar.

From the actual press release:

http://investor.ea.c...eleaseID=443674

EDMONTON, Canada, Feb 08, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Leading video game developer BioWare™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS), announced today that Dragon Age™: Origins has sold-in over 3.2 million* units worldwide

Notice the use of the word "Sold-in"?

Definition of sell-in:

sell invb (adverb)1. (Business / Commerce) (tr) [b]to sell (new products) to a retail outlet
to be sold to the public

http://www.thefreedi...ary.com/sell in

If they had actually sold those units to customers they would have used sell through which means: "percentage of units shipped which are actually sold." From Wiki.

Hence the 3.2 mil figure is units shipped, not sold.

While I appreciate the definition of 'sold-in', i'm going by the EA quarterly reports which states sold. As to which is more accurate I don't think this is really the place for us to debate. Suffice to say ME2 has been succesful enough to warrent a ME3 :):)

Although I was quite disappointed with several aspects of the game, it is much more worth the full prize than the majority of short, idealess and repetative games these days *cough*CoD*cough*.
It is packed with so much more content and dev effort than the average game now.

Don't be silly! In spite of how you might have judged the game's departures from the original, nobody should dare tell me that the $50-60-70 value one payed for this game was not payed back, in full, amicably. Saying anything to the contrary is illogical sentimentality.

Now the $10 DLC's, those you can make an argument for, but I do think it's already been established that the standard set for the DLC pricing across all games is flipping ridiculous.

without a doubt. I thought mass effect 2 was a steal for 30 $ I think it was incredibly well done and thoroughly enjoyable for months. I would have been willing to pay a lot for it.

Paid 90.00 for collectors if I recall correctly and took a weeks vacation to play, not worth it in my opinion.

Saw it at Target for 14.00 bucks(xbox) a few months back, wish I had paid that instead.

Not a chance in hell.

If i'd known back then just how butchered and generic the ME2 system had been made, I would have rented it instead of buying it.

This.

I bought it day one,  and was horrified to discover they'd taken a fine RPG and turned it into a really crappy TPS.  I struggled to play it,  but somewhere around when I realized that Quake's AI was an order of magnitude better,  and the constant contradiction and nonsense in the story became glaring,  I just gave up.

I really feel I was ripped off my $60.

I also really feel that Bioware's gone straight downhill since EA took over,  quality has gone to crap and suddenly they're trying to imitate shooters instead of making RPGs.

I don't think they've got 3 years left.

Bioware are making more money then ever. Just because people like you wish the video game industry and RPG games was still in the nineties doesn't mean everybody else does. More Bioware fans liked ME2 then ME1. Bioware got more critical and commercial sucess from ME2 then from ME1. You really think they don't have 3 years left?

and...

They aren't worth arguing with. Mass Effect 2 had much better critical reviews. Mass Effect 2 had much better player ratings (as evidenced by polls and meters on sites like ign, gamespot, and uh THIS VERY SITE), and finally, Mass Effect 2 sold better. Thus, by every statistical measure Mass Effect 2 was a better game. The "ME1 is superior in every way" crowd is so backward it isn't even funny.

1.  Bioware doesn't make money.  Bioware is owned by EA.  EA makes money.

2.  Isn't it interesting how when people can't find a rational counter arguement they always resort to "Everything but this game is OLD!  Only you bad people want to play OLD games!".

3.  Apparently you are in possession of a survey of every single person who plays games and what they like,  since you clearly state you know that everyone else doesn't like Mass Effect's gameplay.  Would you please post a link to this data for the rest of us?  The complete breakdown I mean.

4.  Apparently you are also in possession of a survey of every single person who bought ME2 and what they like,  would you please post a link to that data as well?

5.  Because otherwise you're just making things up.

6.  Isn't it strange how the industries biggest advertiser's game got all of the awards?  I wonder how that happened...Especially since...

7.  Mass Effect sold 2 million units,  ME2 sold only 1.6.  DAO sold 3.2 million,  and Fable 2 sold 2 million.  So basically,  ME2's at the bottom of the list.

8.  Wouldn't it be really interesting if people realized those "Player ratings" have the low numbers culled out?  Take a look at some of your favorite examples,  it's really fun to notice almost everything below a certain threshold disappears when you go back further.

9.  Would be more interesting if people remembered the massive flame wars on THIS VERY FORUM about the changes.

10.  It's just so highly entertaining,  if you liked Mass Effect (2007) you're "Backwards and old!!!!!!".  I guess cloning Gears of War and throwing in some dialogue makes you up to date?  Oh...wait...Gears of War is as old as Mass Effect...Incoming Paradox!

It's just so entertaining that people use the same attacks to try and shout down anyone who thinks (insert game) made a turn for the worse.  "You're old and a stupid head!" for a game that isn't even 5 years old?  Really?

1. no one brought up that distinction, but whatever.

2. That isn't the point I was making at all. The point I was making was that a lot of the whiners hold certain archaic and backwards game elements as requisite, otherwise the game sucks. Mass effect 1 is hardly an old game.

3. I am very aware that not everyone liked ME2 better than ME1. The VAST MAJORITY did however, and the ME1isholierthanthou crowd has never used a statistic that proves otherwise.

4. You made the same point as in point 3. Bravo for redundency.

5. aww how cute. Thats three points in a row where you failed to introduce a new point.

6. Nothing like claiming conspiracy to make a valid argument *rolls eyes* I'm sure EA bought every reviewer off. sure sure.

7. better check your data again son. Your's is old. ME2 has outsold ME1.

8. 'hey, did you ever notice how if you remove all the data that disagrees with me, I have an argument?"- your argument in that point in a nutshell.

9. a small group of people within a message board whining about changes is not evidence.

10. Again, you repeat the point you made in point 2. As for the gears of war example, ME1's combat was derivative of Gears of war as well. It was just clunky as hell, which was fixed in ME2.
