My friend noticed a very interesting thing about aliens they all look alike, I mean humans have different races, why don't we see asian salarians and black krogans? Maybe some krogans should have horns or something. Make aliens more interesting. :)

Well, there is a good deal of variation among Asari, with their specklings and slightly different skin colors, and some are even purple.
And for Turians, there is a variety of coloring, and their facepaint likely has some social implications.

I think the idea is that they do have varied "races," but it's generally something that humans wouldn't pick up as easily, since we don't know their cultures too well.

Wrex doesn't look like Grunt. Chorban is a red salarian and Kirrahe is a green salarian. Asaris range from pale blue to purple. Turians are too quite variable.

On the other hand it's normal that all aliens look alike to us. People usually can't tell one gorilla from another, let alone beings from another planet.

There are HUGE differences in the facial structure of the asari/salarians/turians, and they all come in different tones and hues as well.

Kolyat has a bigger chin than his father, and Feron apparently licked himself because he ain't tastin' the rainbow, he IS one.

It's hard to tell the difference with krogan, but I've noticed variations in the crest colors (Grunt doesn't count because he's a baby).

Most elcor, volus, and quarians (apart from Tali) seem to be recolors. I saw one blue hanar, but other than that it's mostly the same exact model for each.

Racist.

I'm from Russia I can be racist, we were mongolian slaves for 500 years.

Turians, batarians, salarians may have different colors, but the facial structure remains the same. Some characters may look a bit different. But we dont' see how turians were affected by living in different climate zones. I just think that guys from bioware should add a bit more details, so when we look at turian we can say that he looks lilke that because he lived in northen part of his homeworld.

And turian facepaint looks like a tattoo and not something they developed during the process of evolution.

You are assuming that aliens must share the same kind of phenotypic variation as humans do, particularly facial bone structure. Why? Because you like it?

Because how can they all be so similar if they live in different environments? I just think it wouldn't hurt to make more uniquely looking characters.

I don't know. I can tell Liara from the asari councilor from the consort, and Chellick from Garrus from Nihlus from Septimus, or Kirrahe from Rentola. Can't you?

I've just read in the mass effect wiki that asaris found the citadel about 2500 years ago (580 BCE). So the whole colonizing and settling in another planets started very little time ago in evolutionary terms. We didn't have horns 2500 years ago.

Actually, if you bother to look closely, there is a lot of variation in coloring/face types for many of the alien species. The Asari, like humans, generally each have a different facial structure and there are many hues of blue, freckles etc. The Turians have slightly different mandible and fringe lengths as well as other different facial features and different skin coloring (let's take, for example, Nihlus who was a very dark red almost black, versus the greyish/beige of Garrus). Salarians also have slightly different faces and quite a variety of skin colors. Krogans are a bit more uniform (except Grunt) but they still come in different colors.

As for them largely being the same body type, so are all humans in ME. Not a problem. Also, if that still doesn't make you happy, humans are mentioned a few times in game as having abnormally high genetic diversity amongst the sapient races.

Well, I can't argue with that. =)

Maybe I really have to play ME once more and take a better look at characters.

Grunt, being a pure Krogan, has a different forehead or wathever it's called. All aliens are different to ourselves, but Mordin says that humans have a more varied genetic code then any alien's, Shepard then mentioning that we can look very different. This means that humans are more varied in our own species then aliens.

Playing more ME is always a good thing to do. :) But yeah, even if you just look at some of the background characters, you can see some of the differences.
