So I don't want to be the tank but mainly doing damage and still have a decent defence/armor! Allistair is going to be the tank in my party, so he will be wearing massive armor, but does that mean I should stick to heavy? because of the threat?
Need some advice on gear, talents and attributes...

Or is it simply better to go for 2h or DW (warrior ofcourse)

Please forgive me if there is a great guide for this kind of build that I have overlooked...

Thanks!

You could consider DW dagger/dagger with enough strength for the best armor and then the rest of the points in dex. It's a defensive build but still a good damage build at the same time.

Daggers aren't as weak as they may look by the way. They are the fastest weapons and gain the most from +damage bonus effects (such as berserking or item enchantments and runes). They are also the only melee weapons that gain damage from both strength and dex.

Otherwise I'd just pick either 2h and strength DW (and wear massive armor in both cases). DW has higher defense because it actually needs some dex, but 2h can defend itself with knockdowns and stuns. They don't really die that easily, particularly if you have someone else tanking.

Take 26 dex for taltens, the rest goes into strength. By the time you'll have enough talents points to fill out the s&s branch as well as warrior and the specializations.
I use Cailans arms along with heavy armor. Just test how far you can go with massive, before building up too much threat. Beside Alistair (s&s aswell, more defensive) I took Wynne and Morrigan along. For buffing me and debuffing the enemies a bit. Works fantastic.

Several things about Armor in relation to Threat.

1. There are three classifications for armor when determining threat: no armor (clothing), Light Armor, and Everything Else. Dropping down to Heavy Armor will not lessen the threat generated by your armor. If you want Alistair drawing more threat, you'd have to use Light Armor.

2. Armor-generated threat is outclassed by distance-based threat. The closer you are, the more threat you generate. Even if you're a Mage, the fact that you're closer when encountering enemies automatically makes you the biggest threat on the field. This is why Mage characters have so many issues with enemies going after them at the beginning of an encounter: the PC automatically generates more threat because they're closer.

Well, I would think you want 26 Dex (Shield Mastery), enough stamina (or regen items/spells) to spam the 4 shield attack abilities, and the rest in strength (more damage).

Using light armor would keep fatigue low for a smaller willpower investment as well as reduced threat. Avoid branch 2 of the shield tree in favor of Disengage and Specializations. As an alternative, put two or three points in an archery branch and lead with one of those while Alistair moves in to grab threat.

Axe is probably the best to make use of high strength. Aodh is an excellent waraxe that can be picked up early and will carry you through until you can afford The Veshialle.

Didn't know that. Seems that I still have to learn on some mechanics. Dude, that brings up so much possibilities.. thanks for that! I was always looking for medium/heavy armor for a damage dealer.

Problem with those guides are the fact they are over a year old.

I dont see the Problem though? 26 dex, all Str build works fine as a damage dealing Weapon+Shield setup.

So does a all str two-hand or some duel wield spreads.

Its allright,  on a weapon+shield build Aura of pain talent from he reaver spec is murder. Other spec is open ended for them since all others are useful.  Im a fan of Reaver/Templar  of S/S and Two-hand myself though.

Try 26 dex, all other points Str. With a reaver Spec.  I found alot of use outta this offensive tank setup.

Thanks, I will try it out. Haven't used the reaver spec yet, so that could take a little getting used to. But this is a good way to try it out!
