Currently for a simple 3 room area the process of lightmapping takes thirty minutes. I've seen videos of other people lightmapping in all of a few seconds.

So... I have to ask... what gives? My computer isn't a complete POS, I've got a fairly new graphics card and 3 gigs of RAM. Currently running XP.

Is there any way to cut down on the stupid length of lightmapping? Cause at the moment it's a real show-stopper in level creation.

I guess nobody knows how to fix this, then.

I can't answer for interior levels, as I haven't done any of those yet. As a test, create an exterior level, add a single ambient baked light, and build lightmaps on that. It should only take about 10-20 seconds to complete. If it takes more than that, then I would say something is wrong with your machine and/or the installation. Otherwise, there's something screwy in your level. I would also suggest heading over to the wiki and trying to follow some of the tutorials over there exectly and see how the lightmap responds.

What's your processor? Your ram/graphics card won't have much of an effect on rendering speed.

Well the exterior level only took about 12 seconds to lightmap for the ambient light. I tried again interior with a different set than Ferelden Human Interior, and it turned out to work great too.

I guess it's simply that FHI is really bugged when it comes to lightmapping? Anyone else care to try? It seems like a pretty terrible model set in general after creating several rooms. There's always tiny slivers of the outside world visible, or small parts of the backside of the walls, and the only way to fix it is to slide the walls a couple inches one way or the other.

Anyway, thanks for the help folks.
