it seems that in DA2 the threshold gap between them is higher this time. which is a good thing in my book.

I still think it's a good thing, provided the harder difficulties are as challenging as they make them out to be (the "haxx0red" demo is unreliable). The difficulty setting in Origins didn't change difficulty significantly enough, except for casual which was really easier. Hard was just a little more dificult than normal, and nightmare barely more difficult than hard.
Good points. I think/hope that they will be more challenging this time. At least Bioware has a good idea for what each level means now.

I'm just hoping the difficulty is a bit more balanced this time around, I usually play DAO on Normal or hard but there are battles i simply have to lower the difficulty on...
EDIT: The only way normal is like casual is that it doesnt take ages for a single enemy to die in DA2

Well i have to admit that at first normal in Origins was a bit too difficult, but after learning the tricks it baecame easy. From that description it sounds like it'll be safe to start DA2 on hard. I think "Playing the whole party optimally" used the be old "normal".
Agreed and agreed. I will start on Hard as I have experience of DA:O. I'm sure for me it will be hard enough as combat is not my main goal of the game (but I want it hard enough to keep me focused).

Either that is one heck of a learning curve, or Friendly-Fire does hurt like shiznit! I hope we can enable said one also on Hard difficulty or below (Nightmare difficulty has FF mandatory of course!).
edit://
I just recently swooped through the Cauthrien Encounter on Hard Difficulty in DAO with my Arcane Warrior (Not really op as I don't use armor, but a modded robe that gives me 10 armor I believe, with a total of maybe twenty armor with all boni included (+spells (minus that one spell, which haven't used yet)) though I have Arcane Warrior Plus, which is somewhat heavy hitting in all aspects) with none of my companions dying in the process.
Making decent tactics (especially with Advanced Tactics by anakin) really does make a huuuge difference. I hope that to be as rewarding in DAII as it is in DAO (now).

Although, playing on Xbox with no auto-attack, the balance on normal might be just right.

FF does indeed hurts immensely. On middle to high levels, basic talents like Mighty Blow would kill your party members in one hit, and one mis-aimed Fireball would be a wipe. That's because player damage (and enemies' health) scales much more aggressively than player's health.

I simply can't understand why they can't make a truly brutal difficulty for people who don't breathe through their mouth. I am fine with having noob difficulties, but why are they nerfing harder ones too? It's unacceptable that Bioware is trying to soothe egos of children just so they can post "Hey, I beat teh game on hard" on forum
At least a few people from Bioware must beat it so they know it's possible, and it must be possible for all classes. If one person can do it, many players can, especially with pause-and-play.
