For me, it depends on if they do right by the ME1 LI's in ME3. If there's no possibility of a happy ending with my ME1 LI, then I don't think that I will be investing in further ME games.

There should be a spin-off ME game entirely about you and your LI after the Reaper threat has been eliminated.

Also, what about a spin-off game that is entirely about politics? Like you're Captain Anderson or Udina and you have to make political choices.

Maybe they could pull a Star Trek: TNG and move 100 or so years ahead on things and start a whole new trilogy or whatever. You get to see how things have evolved and changed. You could (maybe) even have some of your bigger choices of the original trilogy shape things a bit. Liara, other Asari and Krogan could all be in there for fun. Maybe?

I don't think it will be called Mass Effect 4 .. it will probably be called Mass Effect:<insert cool side title here> .. the Mass Effect lore already has many intersting characters and races .. imagine a Mass Effect game where you play a protheian and live what happened when they faced the Reapers .. or Play a part in the First Contact Wars between humans and Turians (Either Turian or Human) .. it even could be a game that mixes space RTS combat with Third Person Action .. or you can a play a sexy asari commando doing stealth missions and espionage.. or a Krogan Warlord rallying his clan (with "clan management" features and ability to command a small Krogan Army in Third Person) and you fight other krogan and even join the Rachnai Wars and later on the Krogan genocide.

In short if Bioware are smart they will use that rich lore to create many spin-off games .. the potential great and the possibilities are endless.

There are a lot of different ways to go, for sure. I wouldn't be into to it, but you have to assume that BioWare has at least had the Mass Effect MMO discussion. There are so many different races, classes, cultures, lore, locales, etc. to exploit -- plus they could (probably) repurpose the Old Republic MMO assets. I'm not saying I think that's what they'll roll out, but it seems like something they'd at least consider.

I'd personally like things to move forward rather than backward as far as timelines go, but I'd play almost any new ME game that came out -- as long as it wasn't a RTS or MMO.

There is no way Bioware will just leave the Mass effect universe after ME 3. It's so big and they have so many options if they wanted to do a spin-off. So much work went into the Mass Effect lore that it's almost inevitable that we will see a spin-off, probably not until the next gen of consoles though.

If it became like COD, I would never buy a Bioware game again.

They could also make it a multiplayer focused game with a 3 hour single player and in first-person...

Once Mass Effect 3 has been released, They should start making a one off mass effect about the friends and enemys of commander shepard.

I think they should explaining the stories and should go more in-depth with important people like Tali'Zorah, Garrus Vakarian, Thane Krios, Legion, Miranda and Jacob. (and also if any important people have been added in ME3) You should be-able to play as them and the game would show us there past and future.

Bioware have put too much effort into mass effect with the different alien races, the alien races backgrounds and massive history, the many planets and planetary systems, the individual characters backgrounds, there is soooo much depth and effort put into this project that you could easily get 10 great games out of it nevermind 3 or 4.
I am 100% that we will see more games in the mass effect universe in the future.

Mass effect is incredibly diverse.
I can see them doing something like origins somewhere sometime or even maybe a game based around the three gangs, blood pack, eclipse and blue suns having a gang war, where you get to join one and help turn the tide.
