ME4 will be hard to predict because of the various endings in ME3. Bioware would have to create atleast 4-5 different versions of ME4 to go off what your ending was in ME3. If it's more down to EA bringing the game out it'll probably be out in 1-2 years and my hopes won't be to high. If it's left strictly down to Bioware then it could be atleast 3 years before we have it. If not more.

there is no sense in not doing ME4, therefore I doubt there'll be one. can't have ppl doing things that make sense, now can we

I haven't lost faith in Bioware...yet... If they fix this god dang ending and actually create a way for there to be an ME4 then I would be a very happy Turian.

I think that the only way I can see a new instalment, is if it is like 400 thousand years in the future and the asari, human, turian, salarian, krogan, etc. species are all dead, killed by some sort of neo-geth AI that the catlyst warned of. But because of commander sheps decision at the citadel, whatever race that made the citadel and the mass relays, watching from outside the galaxy (or in the center like the collectors), brings back shepard to kill off the new synthetic life that threatens all organic species... Like the catlyst said they would... If you chose synthesis, then the neo-geth wake you up with a bunch of impants and you go on to kill the "Oldest Race." Then you can keep your save and get two really different stories depending on actions from the previous games.

Downside is humanity is dead.

I feel it should be something different. More spectreish alot move covert operation. Or 100 years later story would be nice.

It might be a different view, but as far as bioware stated "Shepards story ends in number 3" but with the universe in total turmoil after number 3 I feel that something as original for first players of mass effect and integrated as these were for players could be something like this:

Keep the choices you made to finish number 3. Also take in the final relationship you carried in number 3. Maybe a few other key issues but start number 4 as the child of Shepard. Struggling in a damaged world, being pressured by the memory of your fathers historical standing. Maybe your choices in rebuilding or even allowing yourself to lead an evil side, linking up with previous favorites. Either way keeping a little history from 3 massive games will give dedicated fans a hook, but with 20 years passing it allows a fresh world with new issues.

I just feel letting go of what brought mass effect to the people should be integrated, oh and maybe running into an old Shepard imported from our save games could really hook my emotional link to my past choices

i feel that there should be a 4th game, but start and all new trilogy. maybe something from the back story? like krogan rebellions or the geth incursion? they might be a lot of fun. i also want something set after me3 so all those choices you made have an impact on the future. but maybe not be a human, maybe turian or something.
thats the sort of thing i'd like to see.
(SPOILERS)
i for one wasn't disappointed with the ending for me3, iactually liked it, a very emotive piece of writing, i had guessed what would happen to shep. but the mass relays O.O that was the biggest thing for me, no more inter-stellar flight. all that knowledge and experience and freedom sealed off in a heart beat. all those races on each others planets and no way to find out whats happening. and the citadel closing for good.

So having seen the indoctrination vids and knowing there IS an ending where Shepard survives, I don't think we are looking at DLC. DLC to give a different ending would be dickish. But a Mass Effect 4 would mirror what happened with Halo 3 where you could save Master Chief and we are now looking at a Halo 4. This is essentially the same thing. I mean how insane of a "mental suicide" mission would this be, paving way for a ME4. Think about it. How many choices could have gotten you killed and still completed ME2?

If that was the case you could imagine something inherently creepy happenning such as romancing Liara or something.:P

It would actually be pretty cool if you would be able to see Liara in here Matriarch days IMO. It would also be sweet to visit Shepard's grave that could definitely be a heart felt moment for some fans or at least give male/female shepard a statue on the Citadel if it still exists in future games.

I have to say that, personally, it would be hard for me to play another ME game *without* Shepard. I've become so attached to him as "me," that to be someone else would be very difficult. I'm always surprised by that aspect of gaming. When you have a great character, why would you limit yourself to saying "It's a trilogy" rather than something like a Holmes character who can exist in many different stories. But that's also probably because I tend to look at ME as still a semblance of an RPG, not a TPS.

One of the few things that Bioware could give me to redeem the awful endings (besides fixing them) is a continuation of Shepard's story.

IDC if its mass effect or what but I hope to see more sci-fi/space opera RPG's from bioware and would LOVE to see more trilogies. Despite my discontent with a few things (day 1 DLC, less fleshed out dialog, no krogan team mate, no real co-op multi, etc), I hope to see more. I'd be fine with them milking the ME universe as long as EA lets bioware produce in their timeframe and bioware pays attention to the details that make bioware games (generally) stand out from the rest.

Bioware have already said that Mass Effect will go BEYOND the first 3 games. The next one will probably still have Liara etc going on from when they crash land on the planet. Could be years on and they have created a civilisation where others joined them etc. I think Bioware were just bluffing on this supposedly being the end of Shepard's story. I think if they wanted to they could have made and ending where he was confirmed dead. I think they definitely still have a part for him in the next one.

I wouldn't buy a prequel.I want the story to continue after Commander Shepard.New Character/Hero & New Enemy.Halo prequels sucked.Halo,Halo 2,& Halo 3 were the best of them all.Halo 4 is coming so Bioware don't pull a Halo.Go forward not backwards.

Sure, probably taking place a good amount of time later though. I would like to see the galaxy "rediscovered," so to speak.

I agree with Incax warrior, I would like for them to create a ME4 set at least a decade after the events of the Reaper Crisis, it would seem to give developers enough room for a start fresh. Begin not necessarily as a child of Shepard but as a character(with some of Shepard's likness) that was just a teenager during the war, and depending on how Shepard ended things in ME3, give players a chance to have a (re-)union with the the Normandy crew.

As an added bonus perhaps allow the new character to have a choice to romance a select few from the original Normandy (Liara?). Whatever the case, should they make a ME4, Bioware has my support. It would be interesting to see what they cook up.

It's possible, but I do believe they said that ME3 is the end of Shepard's story.

If there's a ME4, it'll be a story about someone else.

they said the same for halo 4 and look what will be released this holiday.....

my attitude is never say never because shepard has becoming basicly an icconin gaming so i dont think mass effect will sell without him or her

Just going to put this here as my thread was ignored. :(

I was thinking a brotherhood style game for the mass effect series.

Likely this game will be set from the very begginning of Mass Effect 1 to the ressurection of Shepherd at the beginning of Mass effect 2. The game will start on Eden Prime, you play as a Cerberus commander(Who's background is of your choice) sent on a mission to investigate Eden Prime. With such a major artifact as the Prothean beacon, being uncovered you would of expected Cerberus to be in the race to get it, for human interests only. Anyway your character gets caught up in events, like the Alliance, Cerberus fails to prep it's troops about the potential threats. Perhaps you even come into contact with Nihlus or Saren or even both.

Anyway you return to the Illusive man with the mission a failure. Meanwhile the Illusive man notes how Saren is seemingly half synthetic, he sends you on a mission to hunt him down while not telling you of his real motives. From here on out you practically shadow Shepherd's progress. Investigating leads, visting perhaps more shady characters to obtain leads. You are practically the Illusive man's henchman, before he aquired Shepherd and of course Kai Leng. He gives you a nice ship, information on possible squad members etc.

Just because your character works for Cerberus doesn't automatically make him a racist, he could be working there because the alliance screwed him over like so many other Ceberus employees. Wouldn't it feel epic if we. while on your own respective mission, to see a giant battle going on above you at the citadel? However this would only be the first half of the game, in the second half, your job is to piece together what happened to Shepherd in the circumstances leading to his death. As an example, helping "Arkangel" do his work in the citadel in order to find information. Maybe even bringing together the crew again for Shepards arrival at what was the beginning of ME2.

I feel this would give the fans a certain amount of closure after seeing atleast what happened of the galaxy between those two years. It would also give Bioware the excuse to use fan favourites such as Garrus, Wrex or Tali in large roles once again.

I think they should Make it so that your the son/daughter of commander Shepard, So if you had a romance with ashley or someone and they found out they were pregnant and gave birth to a child of commander Shepard's to continue on his legacy... there is still alot of things that have been left uncovered like what the Krogan will do with this new power there given or how people will get back to there home planets, ok obviously it's pritty clear that the relays were destroyed... but just remember in the second mass effect Shepard died and cerburus brought him back... so either way there could be something like that happen with the mass effect games..

If Bioware plans to make Mass Effect 4, I do believe the story will be about the surviving galaxy race (Human, Asari, Salarian and Turian) will have to face the Krogans or Rachni threat without Commander Shepard and a new hero will rose up.

Lol, i know im late for this, but like some people were saying in the the first pages, i support some major wub wub kick ass story spin-offs for mass effect 4, the possibilities are unlimited! I know Bioware is great with this kind of thing, for an example, the citadel being the catalyst was awesome, when i discovered this near the ending i was like: " O_0, Omg"

Sorry for double post, but i had a story spin-off idea! How about this, after ME3 ending, Shepard wakes up in front of where it all started, the prothean beacon on Eden Prime (dont rage on me), then all that usual stuff happens, ashley and kaiden come to help you, and you think it was just a vision, but it was soooo real. Further in the game you discover it wasnt a vision, the Reapers, noticed they would fall, they wouldnt let it happen and did something epic (idk) and everything went back to "normal" so they had time to strike sooner. This is when the **** starts ****tin \\o/

New to the forum as a writer, so hello to all!
Just finished ME3 today and I have to say I liked the ending(s). I would love to have seen some more impressions from rebuilding Earth, Thessia and other devastated planets, but it wasn't as far as disappointing as I thought it would be after noticing some ongoing discussions.

As for ME4: I hope there will be a sequel. While playing ME3, I always felt a bit like Kaidan might play a bigger role in a future game (or Ashley, depending on the Vermire decision...). Just like Shepard, he's a spectre now, he's been in the game from ME1 on, he's the most Shepard-like character and either Shep or FemShep could romance him, making him quite a versatile character (innuendo intended). I think he'd be ideally suited. A son or daughter of Shepard would be hard to explain if you chose a gay romance interest (like I did). Don't want to speculate on a possible plot, though a sequel would offer more possibilites and more freedom like prequels or parallel stories. And I hope they don't do a FPS or RTS, the storytelling would definitely suffer...
