Eat/drink- remember one Qurian mentions that she "eats turian food paste". The suits probably have a method of inserting thais food or dinks into the suits.
Reproduce- Outside the flotilla, probably like tali with shepard
In the flotilla however they might have something like "clean rooms" where it would be less dangerous to remove their suits.

In Battlestar Galactica it made relative sense. Humanity was on it's own, all 12 colonies were destroyed and there wasn't exactly an abundance of habitable planets to settle. In Mass Effect, it doesn't make sense. There's an entire galactic support network in the Citadel Council and habitable planets to settle practically seem to grow on trees (heck, there was one imminently settleable and unclaimed-at-the-time world practically on the Citadel's doorstep with Bekenstein).

Anyway, the entire thing doesn't make sense. They have only been off of their homeworld for 300 years; thats, what, six or seven generations, at most? You DON'T develop allergens to EVERYTHING in that amount of time. Furthermore, if their immune systems are weakened because they are always on their ships, they should be able to not wear a suit on a ship. The entire point was that ships are highly clean and sterilized, so their immune systems got used to THAT. You're telling me they just weakened further of their own accord? Or did they just say "Alright, we got booted off of our homeworld, time to wear suits forever."? It doesn't make much sense.
Also, when that quarian got shot, he WOULDN'T have gotten an infection (when you are picking up tali). First, the bullet that went into him was extremely hot; sterilized. Secondly, that world was barren and nigh lifeless; any infection he could have gotten from anywhere else (such as his suit) would have been radiated off of him by that time. And lastly, the medigel and antibiotics that were immediately introduced to his wound would ensure that nothing got in.
It just doesn't make any sense. It seems like they had a good idea in ME1, but as soon as we can actually go on the flotilla, they realized that hadn't made faces for the quarians so just took the easy way out and said "They have to wear suits all the time, no matter what".

What I'd like to know is why the quarian homeworld being lost meant that the entire quarian race was forced into life on the Flotilla to the point where their immune systems were compromised. I mean, even humanity being the relatively unestablished newcomer to the galactic scene, if Earth were wiped entirely out of existence there are still numerous human colonies throughout the galaxy and humans living freely aboard various space stations like the Citadel and Omega. We wouldn't all suddenly start living aboard starships and wear environment suits 24/7.

Their immune systems were really weak before they lost their homeworld, it's a genetic trait.JKoopman wrote...

They would have to get vaccinations for every disease they could possibly come into contact with and then times that by 17 million. I don't think they can do that sort of thing cheaply.chrono21791 wrote...
It doesn't matter how weak your immune system is. That's how vaccinations work. You insert a dead or disabled virus into the system, allowing your immune system to learn how to deal with and counteract the disease without actually risking catching it. I can see how bacterial infections would be more of a problem, but most of the problem would be viruses.

Yes, I understand that bit. They couldn't be acclimized to every environment. But they could at least vaccinate themselves to be able to function on, oh, I don't know, THEIR OWN STERILIZED GODDAMN SHIPS. Or the Citadel. Or ONE WORLD. Or something.
I mean, seriously. There are people who have lived their entire lives aboard space stations, like the citadel. Hell, one of Shepard's histories is living aboard ships most of his life. But none of them have to wear enviro-suits. I mean, they could have easily just said "Quarian atmoshperes are poisonous to everyone but Quarians, and vice-verca." But the whole "gotta wear suits, all the time" makes very little sense. In the codex entries and tali's dialogue in ME1, it was basically implied that they could go suitless on their own ships. But they can't in ME2.

The geth overthrew them on every system in their home cluster, but not every system in the galaxy. Or else "Geth Space" would basically encompass the entirety of the Milky Way galaxy and not just the Perseus Veil. There are human enclaves and colonies scattered everywhere across the galaxy, from our home cluster, to every corner of Citadel Space (Citadel, Bekenstein, Eden Prime, Elysium, Noveria, Feros, etc) all the way out to the Terminus Systems (Omega, Horizon, Freedom's Progress, numerous other unnamed human colonies), and humanity is supposed to be the newcomer. Are you telling me the the entirely of the quarian race was supposedly confined to the Perseus Veil?
@DinoCrisisFan
Their immune systems were weak, not nonesistant. Besides, their reaction to foreign contaminants is described in ME2 as not being a true "sickness" but rather an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions are the result of an overactive immune system. So which is it? Do they have no immune response or do they have too strong of an immune response?
I love me some Tali, but the quarian species is just one giant clusterf*ck of inconsistencies and nonsense.

Its interesting because according to Ascension, Quarians can live without suits on the flotilla. They just choose to wear them for privacy. This however is contradicted in ME2.chrono21791 wrote...

I'm pretty sure they took over the home cluster, but also destroyed colonies outside of that (without occupying them afterwords). Was Healstrom in the viel? I don't remember... anyway, thats the only explanation I can think of. The codex entries don't really say for certain. Unless they do, and I missed them.

Pretty much all of ME is a clusterf*ck of inconsistencies. Like how guns have unlimited ammo in ME1, even says so in the codex, and in ME2 they have ammo.JKoopman wrote...

No, they explain that. There is a codex entry about it that makes perfect sense. Basically, geth noticed that in firefights, whoever let off the most rounds would win, due to kintecit barriers. The problem was the guns would eventually overheat, and you would have to wait for them to cool down. They solved this problem by making disposable "thermal clips". The clips don't actually give you ammo, but absorb heat, and are then discarded and replaced once they would overheat, allowing for a much faster rate of fire.

My dream fix for all this would be my Shepard and Tali had a baby that had the cure or whatever to all their gene problems. Kind of like in fallout 3 the Pitt.
I would lol though because once it was announced that human-quarian children have a strong immune system, tons of human men would be flocking over to the Migrant Fleet to seduce willing Quarian babes.
