I'm guessing something didn't sit right with the French?![]()
Something got wrong with French's VO in DA2.
not only that.
I think a lot of testers are passionate of RPG old shcool and DA2 really don't fit in this category.
(and for surely much more others reasons....)

That doesn't invalidate the review, though.Kornichon wrote...

With that said throwing in -some- expected genre concepts can work well if you are changing up a lot of other stuff. To much 'new' can overwhelm or cause as much of an identity crisis as not having enough new in my experience.
I do agree. But I believe that the reviewer is stating something that the community have been saying since the time of DA:O. The franchise looked too generalistic and bland. It does not have a true personality (being old or new). DA:O's trick was nostalgia. In DA2 the devs have honestly tried to give some personality to the franchise and I supported them doing so since I was not very impressed by DA:O (even as a spiritual successor to BG wich it wasn't and wich I would love to see one day if made it right and without concessions).
But reading the reviews I see that one of the common trend in the critics is that the game has not a lot of personality. It's not bad but it's not good. It's not tactical but it's not casual. So, I preordered the game and I will probably enjoy it but honestly I'm a little bit worried that they have missed the chance to give a spin to the franchise and that maybe their goal was too broad and complex for the time that was given to them.

I unsderstand a lot the disappointement from French reviews but I'm not the good person to talk about it.

But then again, now that I've read some of the reviews, I've realised several common aspects of the game propping up in most reviews. Before I agree or disagree with these reviews, I shall play the game and then form my own opinion.

Damn, heads will roll if this doesnt sell.
I just hope that the people responsible are fired, the lead producers and devs responsible for this failure, instead of the fruitless layoffs of random low level employees. Though from the friends I have in the game industry, this apparently rarely happens, lower level staff is reshuffled and the idiots behind the mess continue to screw up for a few years longer.
Really glad I didn't buy this game....

There may have been a reason the marketing team pushed pre-purchases so hard as far back as December.
So far the reviews are both up and down. I can't wait 'til Thursday so I can have my own opinion and compare it to others. I may even enjoy it more, since my expectations aren't that high right now. (Better to have lower expectations exceeded than very high expectations disappointed).

As I've said before, professional review aren't looking very good (even if most reviews are praising the game for the changes most hater have criticized so far... and they are not bad, they are mostly average positive). But I do not really trust user reviews, positive ones and negative ones. Especially on day one. 87 reviews in the first day since release? That must be a joke. Those guys have not even played the game.

There ARE up sides to the way this game was designed (clearly most of the WTF?! changes were inspired by the console client). The console versions are pretty great as they are (for that platform) and as long as we see a Toolset soon, many (if not all) of the PC versions issues will be resolved by user mods. I think we might just get the best of both worlds in the end.

1Up B+ - Despite the big fat "2" on Dragon Age 2's box, it doesn't actually feel like a sequel. (DAO A+)
Bit-Tech 7/10 - It's by no means a bad game, but we can't help being disappointed by its developed-by-numbers feel. (DAO 8/10)

I, personally, enjoyed this review because it stated clearly all of the obvious flaws with the game without the sense of betrayal that many of the other reviewers seem to have. Good stuff.

GamePro 4/5 - Its streamlined mechanics and more action-oriented combat should appeal to console players, but hardcore fans of PC RPGs may feel slighted. (DAO 5/5)

No, because paying customers opinion of a product do not count, right?
