No one trusts PSM except Killzone junkies... and Killzone was bad compared to any other FPS.

Did you play Killzone? Killzone is far superior to many Fls's especially any if the call of duty's the only people who don't like KZ Because the controls are not dumbed down for them like in COD or Halo.

SFX magazine is the biggest selling SF and Fantasy magazine in Europe. The reviewer was flown to Bioware to review the game - it's legitimate (even if I don't agree with some of their conclusions). 3.5 stars out of 5 is 70%.

I don't know what their DA:O review score was.

Alright. But I can't really average that in. :(

ETA: Eh, whatever, I'll do it anyway.

What you have to consider is that most gaming reviews use the "attractiveness scale" that goes from 6 - 10, where 7 has become the average.  You often hear people use this to rank attractiveness, because no one wants to be below a 6.  And if anyone is below a 6, it's often used in an exaggerated scale.

SFX uses an actual scale of 5 being amazing, and 1 being poor.  I'd almost add 5 points to it to make it a 85, but I'm not that familiar with SFX.

I've always wondered how Metacritic managed to convert all these scores, because they don't do the 1-to-1 transfer we would instinctively do, like here.

Didn't game informer give Dragon Age  origins a 9.0?

They gave the PC version a 9.0 and the consoles an 8.0. Personally, since its the same guy reviewing DA2 as DAO for Game Informer, I can put  a little more stock in his review than one like PC Gamer.

The accompanying quote to the Game Informer metacritic score isn't great:

"Part of me was disappointed with Dragon Age II. I hoped for an improvement on the original, but it ultimately feels like a step back."

Krawall gives 83%, "one step forward and two steps back". Review makes it sound much worse than the score indicates.

I don't read German, so can you tell me which version they're reviewing? The DAO review has three different scores for each platform, so I'm not sure which to compare to.

Nevermind, they only reviewed the PC, and the other scores are Reader's Ratings. Thanks for the tip! ^_^

In all likelyhood this will probably be one of Bioware's weaker titles. It definitely won't be the exceptional effort ME2 was, for sure.

Having seen a good bit of the final game, I know. ME2's conversations are still much more cinematic and the cutscene animation is dodgey and robotic at best. Camera movement is minimal, too. Characters stand with their arms at their sides with mostly the same expression. The facial animation in particular is just really lazy, even worse than in Origins. The worst part is that even the critical plot scenes suffer this.

Gameplay is better, but even then there are kinks. You can't cut out of many animations and shuffle is definitely still there.

A lot of the game just reeks of design shortcuts like a collassal amount of copy-paste cave quests as well.

Really? Because, if you compare review scores, they're actually on par with each other right now. DAII would be a tiny bit higher if I didn't factor in the DAII SFX review that lacks a DAO score.

That's what I've seen and that's the sentiment I'm getting from the critics. Not scores. I've listed my reasons above.

DA2 is a underwhelming and (in spots) lazy effort from Bioware. That's not to say it's a bad game by any means, it's just that Bioware is known for doing better.

...But it's on par with DAO.

Was DAO an underwhelming, lazy effort?

I'm not talking about scores. I'm talking about what I've seen and what I'm hearing.

And even if DA2 is just on par with Origins, I still would expect better. The jump in quality from ME1 to ME2 guaranteed that. I'm not seeing that jump here.

It's all quite subjective, but I agree with the feelings of disappointment - 7 hours in, I felt compelled to drop the game for a while because it was putting me to sleep. If a sequel by the same developer doesn't get a better rating than the original, there's something wrong with it.
