I don't care how changed DA2 is from its predecessor, if it's going to take cheap design shortcuts and cut quality I don't care what kind of work went into it. If something is not up to par, there is no excuse.

In your opinion. Which, to you, is the only one that really matters.

But don't dictate how I should feel about it.

Blacklash93  fail!

God forbid I try to make my point.

I'm not forcing my opinions on anyone. I'm very vocal about them and I certainly don't agree with giving Bioware an easy pass every time they screw up or come up short, but all I'm doing is defending my opinion and nothing more.

Forum arguments are an endless cycle, especially with me. Posted Image

I'll probably enjoy DA2, but I can't help but be disappointed with all the recent news. I expected better quality from Bioware.

Another thing I would like to add is that some old-school RPG fans should stop judging "how RPG this game is" by looking at the traditional aspects of it. Like ME2 got bashed by some because it lacked a traditional inventory when it's "new-gen" inventory was quite likeable.
I hope there won't be such illogical bashing from us fans when DA2 comes out. Ally armour can't be changed and can only be upgraded?WHAT? DA2 is dumbed down!!! ZOMG RIOTS!!!

Role-playing goes far beyond elements beyond inventory or ally's armour. I think that's something BioWare's games have taught us recently.

Inventory and customization aren't 'old school'. Other genre's like shooters and action games have been increasingly implementing these things, as a matter of fact. Other RPG devs still consider these elements important; it's Bioware that loves to streamline.

I see the term traditional flung about a lot, by reviewers as well, and it's an awfully general term. Frequently it's used to disparage anything in a game that isn't immediatley intuitive, or has a steep learning curve.

But of course. But just because a RPG lacks inventory or doesn't allow you to customize any one aspect of your character doesn't mean it is any less a RPG. JRPGs rarely ever let us customize anything yet we're quite happy to call them RPGs. Because quite frankly they are RPGs. You are role-playing. Merely not role-playing the character you've created but more of a character whose path and development has been scripted by the developers.

Wait so you haven't played it? Or am I just getting confused between random forum-hopping? :P

Not that I care since I pre-ordered the game way before any review came out but the DA2 score average is pretty damn close to DA:O.

Awesome~

Omigod, it's higher than Origins'! It must have been dumbed down for the casuals! Canceling my pre-order! Is it too late to say that?

I do expect BioWare to have kept one of their promises atleast and by the looks of Meta-score it might be coming true -- the promise of all three platforms being equal in quality and playability. I feel happy for the console fans but hope that doesn't mean the PC version will suffer. Hopefully not.

meh, i believe its common place with the largest sites/mags but even so da2 is holding its own vs DA:O. Personally i believe commercially it will be a bigger success than Origins, but won't be as beloved. Thats generally something not reflected in the numbers. If i were to rate me2 after my first play through i'd probably give it twice the score i would give it now. Perhaps da2 will invoke that in others. Perhaps not.

To each their own, for me ME2 keeps getting better each time I come back to it. It's quite unnatural. Compared to the way I felt about ME1 it is almost identical though, both games lost something after I completed a second playthrough, but then gained a whole lot more once I persevered through a third. I think whether something is beloved/returned to by a majority is an incredibly hard thing to judge on a large scale.

As for cult status, I suspect DAO might edge it for forever being 'the successor to Baldur's Gate 2'. I can see DA2 getting a lot of love in lists and 'best of...' compilations (or what have you) down the line if reaction to it remains generally positive but with controversy and talking points thrown in. Always makes something that is mostly well regarded remain in the social conciousness for longer if it comes with a healthy dose of disagreement oddly enough. Not to mention having a strong cast of characters adds memorability.

*wipes tear* you know only collected all the reviews and typed them up succinctly but did all the average math and platform discussion as well comparatives with DA:O, if it was in my power I would give you *2* cookies right now.

Thanks Saibh.

It's nice to see that the conspiracy theorists are still very much alive and kicking. Don't forget to put on your tin foil hat.
