On of my main worries with Nightmare and even with friendly fire is whenever or not it actually make the game more tactically interesting to play of it's just "harder" for the sake of being harder.
If friendly fire forces you to carefully place your character and plan your fights like it did in DAO then it's fine, if FF only means that 90% of your spells or abilities will become useless because of their too big area of effect, lack of precision or general combat speed then it wont make the game any more interesting, just a chore to play.
The fact that FF is only available on nightmare and not for the other difficulty level tend to make me worry that it might be the later.
