I suspect it has a lore-purpose so I'll keep it, but the hair is changing.

Does anyone know if the smear is going to be a toggle at the customization screen or a tattoo or something?

I don't really like it. I'll probably go without, but I might keep it when I decide to roll a mage.

I will never put that child's finger painting on my face ever

I kinda like it, I just imagine that it's warpaint or something. Because blood doesn't make sense.

Okay, one thing I noticed in the demo is that people don't wipe the blood off their faces after battle. I mean wouldn't it be logical to smear it off? Because your armor looks bloody after battle.

I like it. I don't like any of the tattoos and you can't put them on default Hawke anyway. It's kinda like a cool tattoo so I'll be using it first play through as I think the default fem hawke looks better than anything in the char creator.

I saw the Rise to Power trailer again. Hawke's smear was black around the 40 sec mark so it may not be blood. I think we can customize the smear and tiktac may be right in that it could be warpaint. I'm strangely obsessed with this.

I think it looks BA, but, can u have the smear and tatoos?

Can a custom Hawke have the blood smear? If so, then yeah!

Is that just a tattoo or a toggle? I thought it was a default, and if not I'm glad. I was actually going to bring up the fact that he doesn't seem to ever wash his face if it's still there days, months and years later. I'm all for dramatic effect, but there comes a point where it's just ridiculous (same as with them looking like they all just took a bath in blood after a single enemy dies...).

Oh yes, because wiping the blood out of your hair, from your face and armor, right after you had a life or death battle with a group of darkspawn or criminal scum is a priority when a other group is already waiting to have a go at your ass.

I didn't realise it was an option either, in the demo at first Hawke doesn't have it, then after arriving in Kirkwall he/she did.
I thought it was something Hawke aquired while learning to be a warrior...

I'm going pro-Blood S(ch)mear. I think Female Hawke looks great with it.

I agree that it may seem out of place at times, but I like it. It looks good at times, because you'll be fighting people moat of the time anyway. Plus, I plan to be a blood mage. I'm pretty sure you can take it off and put in on with that mirror, right?

I generally prefer killing my enemies directly rather than making them laugh themselves to death, so no blood smear for my Hawkes.

I don't really think it looks ridiculous....I think it looks pretty cool...someone get a pic of Hawke with and without and we'll compare them side by side

Indeed, the blood smear looks better on the champion armor. If lady luck is on my side and i get the game, i will pick Blood Smear, looks pretty bad-ass.

He "borrowed" it from Squall.

Once I actually hear some backstory or explanation on the blood smear, or see how and when it appears in game I'll like it. For now, I'm wondering how casual conversations with merchants, love talks/ sex scenes etc are going to go with Hawke sporting the innards of his vanquished foes all over his face.
If it was me in his shoes, I'd definitely do that, but I play rpgs to not be me lol

Squall had a scar....not a blood smear.

No thanks to the blood smear. Unsanitary and kinda gross. But, I also don't like playing with persistant gore.

Given the amount of Blood being spilled, in the first 10 minutes (the Demo) everyone is going to die of the Taint (or become a Grey Warden - NOT!) anyways (according to the story) so it doesn't really matter now does it. And if they don't die of the Taint, the rest of the story is complete utter BS and pointless to even pursue...

It has nothing to do with sweat or being sanitary....it's a game. I just think it looks good and seperates Hawke from others. I'm gonna be a mage, and use it as a sign that I'm out for blood!
