This might be a different problem, but when I run "DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML" the green bar in the installer get's to around 60% and seems to stop. No error messages or anything. Any ideas?

How long does it stall there?  If you wait, it may move past that point.

I fixed my problem... I went and ran steam.exe as administrator.
All I had to do then, was follow the steps here, and now it all works.
Thank you.

First, this is a peer help forum, not official EA support.  We are just fellow gamers, so yelling at us is counter-productive.  Posting this in a thread that actually offers solutions without having appeared to attempt those solutions is also a bit counter-productive.

Second, there is a Solutions Round-Up thread pinned to the top of the forum with a number of possible causes and solutions for DLC authorization issues, including several Steam specific ones like this thread (and a Read First thread pinned there as well with posting guidelines).  If those fail, or you do not wish to attempt any of them, you can use the CD key Steam provided to register and download the EA digital download version using the Origins downloader.  If you still have authorization issues with that, you can try the 1.05 beta patch that resolves DLC issues, but is still in beta because it seems to exacerbate long load time issues for some.  The 1.05 beta cannot be applied to the Steam version because of the way Steam handles patches.

Installed the game yesterday through Steam, used both product keys correctly. All the DLC showed in the game as available / authorized / whatever. Started the game, created a character, got through the initial conversations with the dad and the Grey Warden, but ran out of time after that. Saved my game, quit.

Came back today, and I can't load my saved game, because I'm no longer authorized for all the content.

Tried the fixes listed in the first post in this thread, and they didn't work. DAU_Service_Setup_Steam seems to have worked, but the other file - DAOU_UpdateAddinsXML_Steam - says that I need to be logged in to an account that is authorized in order for it to work. Obviously I've got an account here - I'm posting from it, after all, and I'd assume that anyone looking at it can see that I've got DAO Ultimate Edition registered.

Just to get the obvious questions out of the way:

-Yes, I used both product keys
-Yes, I was correctly logged in, from inside the game
-Yes, it was the same account that I used when registering the game

Any suggestions?

First suggestion: try the rest of the solutions outlined in the solutions round-up.

Second suggestion: read the pinned "Read First" thread with posting guidelines if you need help with the solutions in the solutions round-up

Third suggestion: uninstall. Download and install the EA digital download version and install the 1.05 beta patch as described in the "1.05 beta patch fixes all DLC issues" thread also pinned to the top.

Okay, got a workaround. It's annoying as anything, but it works. Most of the time.

Step 1: Make sure that I'm logged out here.

Step 2: Start game.

Step 3: Log in through the game, not checking the 'remember me' box.

Step 4: Go to the DLC screen.

Step 5: Go to online profile, log out.

Step 6: Log out in the game.

Step 7: Observe as DLC becomes authorized.

It only seems to become authorized if I log in and then out again, while in the game. If I start the game up and I'm not logged in at startup, it's not authorized.

This was VERY helpful. Everything now works fine. Only problem was it didn't work the first time. Rebooting my PC fixed that though, so if it doesnt work then try tht :)

You might not have to install it. My brother bought DA:O:UE on Steam and the content updater was installed, though not started.

1. Open start menu and write run (or what it translates to in your language)
1(alternative): Open the task manager (ctrl-alt-del), file->new process.
2. Type in services.msc and hit enter
3. Find Dragon Age Content Updater.
4. Start it.

You might have to repeat this more times after starting your computer again. I am not sure how to have Windows start services upon startup.

Directions for setting it to launch with Windows start up are in the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top.

Here's where I'm getting stuck: I can't find the Dragon Age: Orgins - Content Updater in the Local Services of the Component Services.  Do I need to reinstall?

Start your own thread as described in the read first thread or try the 1.05 beta patch.

Ok, so I tried to do this but I can't even find the first file you said I should find. Also, I tried to play the game and I can get to the first page of the character creator but I can only get as far as setting my origin. As soon as I click next Dragon Age closes and says the game has stopped working...I waited basically a week for this to download and now it's not working!! Help me pleeease!

Using the instructions here, I verified my DLC is downloaded, instaled and enabled.  Apparently, SOME premium content, even if bought, paid for and installed and enabled, is unavailable until you complete certain parts of the game, or until you visit certain places.

For instance, those seeking a doggie they missed out on in the beginning will have to have Return to Ostagar installed.  However you can't play it unless and until you have visited Bann Loren's Lands (should be marked on your map).  Once you have visited that area the quest will unlock :D

Best of luck and thanks to all :D
