Emperor Iaius I wrote...

Branka and the Teryn of Gwaren are both tragic heroes. They used to be great--and they were driven to madness because of what it did to them. They both had the best intentions, but ended up doing awful things.

That is an excellent point - both were wrong, and made horrible and unforgivable choices, but both had the best of intentions.  I never compared Branka and Loghain, but they are indeed quite similar.

The horrors that Branka committed on her own people were shocking Image IPB. First time when I played the game I could not believe what I saw in deep roads. Those people trusted Branka and were under her command. She is the most evil character.

Bhelen.

I see him as nothing more than a murderer, liar, thief, manipulator and spoiled brat. He's that exact type of person I despise: a clever little manipulative bastard who is capable of being not just a liar, but an INDIGNANT liar. Words cannot describe the pleasure it brings me to watch him flail about in dismay and then die when I crown Harrowmont.

Bhelen is indeed a manipulative, lying, evil git. but I have to say, after talking with Trian as a Dwarf Noble I was tempted to 'let' Bhelen 'trick' my noble into actually killing him on a few play-throughs. if you're gonna get the blame anyway... :P

The whole of the deep roads after the encounter with Helseth and the Broodmother was quite disturbing i've only once been able to bring myself to side with Branka and i regretted it almost immediately. Golems may be useful in the final battle but at what cost.

The top 4 to me are Vaughn, Caladrius, Branka, and Arl Howe in that order. Way down the list would be Loghain(he did terrible acts but had some justification for them), Harrowmont(Because he keeps in the reprehensible cast system and he makes it worse if the Anvil of the Void is saved. I was fooled by Harrowmont on my first playthrough but never again. Only wish my Warden could kill him personally.), and Anora(Mostly because she's self serving and will turn quickly on her supposed allies. Actually she's much like Bhelen but minus any good reforms). Further still down the list is Morrigan, it's hard to know what her intentions are but she seems quite pleased when the Warden does some pretty terrible deeds and she's uncomfortable about helping others usually. However, she does have a charm to her and I do love her character.

My top three are Branka, Howe and Loghain, roughly in that order. Bhelen is up there somewhere too, and Vaughn who'd rank higher if non-city-elves (I wouldn't touch that origin with a ten-foot pole for the "triggers" in it) got a better sense of just what he's doing. Whoever first said it depends partly on which origin you've played or like best has a good point.
