Really? You know EA only gives out a certain number of Collectors Editions (signature editions in this case) to each and every retailer. The retailers are more then aware of this. Its not EA's fault they accept more pre orders then CE's available.
Hmmm, perhaps this is true indeed! I've not thought of it that way...
That just means that EA failed to create a competent agreement with retailers. The ball is firmly in EA's court.

I've heard of various retailers cancelling orders due to several different flavors of idiocy, but this is the first i've seen that is apparently EA's fault.
This. Although I am not suprised it was leading to it, because the amounts of threads appearing now is growing at an alarming rate. Amazon, Play and Gamestation all admitted their mistakes were their own for whatever reason. However there are several more threads appearing now which indicate theres something more going on and this is the first time a retailer has admitted the stock issue is because of EA.
But I should point out when I rang Play.com they tried to blame the supplier first. It was only after some persistance they admitted their blame. So they may be trying to fob you off.
Chris Priestly wrote a post a couple of days ago saying that EA had fulfiled all stock allocations. If this is no longer the case then send him a PM to let him know that he may need to re-investigate it.

Ehhhh i'm not so sure that's the case this time. it was never billed as a limited edition. there is no physical difference between the SE and regular editions aside from the packaging and inclusion of whatever applicable unlock codes. and the SE was for all pre-orders, and the offer ended close to 2 full months before any packaging would be done. all extra content (except maybe the soundtrack, not sure on that) is digital, there's no reason that i can see for there to have been a finite limit on the extra content. it seems to me, who has admittedtly no experience in that line of business, that after they had final numbers on SE pre-orders on January 11th, they'd prepare that many Signature editions.

The things is, the signature edition isnt a limited eddition so to speak, it was an offer with some extra goddies for everyone who order before a set date and all who did should get it.Syrellaris wrote...

If EA can not deliver all the boxes and so on they should at least make sure to give everyone who got their order canceled and have a receipt to show codes for the DLC and the Soundtrack.

I know, but they should have told the retailer that it was a very low amount that was available, back when the whole pre-order started. - Also I just called EA and they said that you could order as many as you wanted back when the pre-order started. They also said that they haven't heard about this problem before.

I'm curious as to who you ordered from?
anyway, PM Chris Priestly and explain it to him, he's dealt with more than a few of these issues and should be able to direct you well. or else stay on the phone with EA, since you apparently just called them. (It's shortly before 6am Bioware time, so it'll most likely be a few hours until chris would be in any position to respond.)
side note: after re-reading your OP, where you were told that "EA could only deliver 10% of what the store needed" that... seems wrong to me, as there was no limit to SE pre-orders, as you yourself was just told by EA. i'm going to guess you're in Europe (most of the cancellations seem to have been coming out of there). I'm getting the impression that whichever EA reps whose job it was to explain the SE to retailers did not speak any language well...

That character is developed and released with a seperate budget, if this seperate DLC budget wasn't in place he would simply have been cut and you wouldn't have got him at all.ATimson wrote...

A party member whose importance is the equivalent of the tower guard from origins.

Skyrim is planned for around november so the wait would be long... other better options would be assassin creed brotherhood coming march 22th, and portal 2 + duke nukem coming in april, the witcher 2 and dungeon siege coming in Mai, and deus ex, starwars republic (mmo with focus on good quests and storyline), and max payne 3 coming in june.
There's also a couple of underdogs available right now, I recommend Drakensang (the original came out a couple of years ago but very good) and drakensang river of time which just came out a couple of weeks ago. It is a german RPG, a bit old school and with a lot of depth and class variety, perfect for those who think DA2 is going a bit too mainstream/casual. (Don't get me wrong, I love DA, I am just telling you what to expect from Drakensang.)

Normally, at least here in Sweden, when a game is preordered at a retailer, that's a thing between the retailer and the customer. If I preorder a game, they give it to me as soon as they get copies. If I preordered late, the ones who preordered before me gets all the games from the first shipment and I'll have to wait until the later shipments. Either way the publisher has no idea any preorders are even going on. This is standard procedure - again, at least in Sweden.
But with the SE, EA basically need retailers to tell them about their preorders. The idea was that if you preordered, you got an SE. And I'm sure that's true and all, for all those who had their preorders mentioned to EA by their retailer. Those retailers who didn't know better (and honestly it can be pretty overwhelming for a store to keep track of the specific promotions for every single darn game) and just put you on a reservation list... they get no SEs to sell to their customers.
I'm sure pretty much all the cancellations we're seeing are popping up that way, including this one. As for TC... I understand it sucks, but you shouldn't let a great game escape you for this crap. But I highly understand that the feeling when you're buying the Sebastian DLC will sting like mad =(
TL;DR EA's fault in not telling retailers better, retailer's fault in not knowing to tell EA about preorders.

Ah, i see. Well, like i said, it seems chris has been able to sort this out for alot of people in your situation, So i'd suggest that you order the regular edition, the PM Chris. That way if he can correct the mistake, you cancel your regular edition and get your SE back, and if he can't, at least you still get the sword and shield and can buy sebastian with that $13 birthday present from EA that you mentioned in your OP.

I won't call it the biggest release of the decade or of the year for that matter.
And they lose not just a sword and shield they get an extra character, sound track, and other things for the same price as the regular edition.

I would absolutely call it the biggest release of the decade. It's the sequel to Bioware's most succesful game, and the decade is only 2 months old.

When Gamestation screwed up, they blamed EA. Same as above.
No one knows for sure what happened here, but based on the recent history of other retailers, I'm more apt to believe that this retailer screwed up somewhere along the line. Maybe by not notifying the distributor of all of their SE orders by a certain deadline. Who knows.
But so far we're 2/2 of major retailers cancelling orders and blaming EA when it was actually their fault.

Its not that the game isnt complete.. If I was to lose my pre-order I would be angry.. It comes with a cooler case, a few hours extra gameplay and character not to mention it was £5 cheaper than retailers are selling the standard version for.
