I hope not because I sure don't.

Atleast give us a dialogue option to decide.

I'd hope so considering it's a videogame character.

My mage Hawke doesn't want anything to do with that Chantry and its "Maker".

Hawk can decide to believe or not, confirmed in dialogue options hacked from the demo.

Yeah, he'll believe in the Maker, but that doesn't mean he'll be all giddy for the Chantry though.

I played all six Origins, and my atitude to the Maker and the Chantry ranged from 'no thanks' to 'die, Andrastian scum'. I don't think I'm likely to play LadyHawke any different.

Pleasingly, it seems very likely that you can seriously stick it to this evil organisation in DA2.

The three 'factions' seem to be Chanry, Mages Circle and Qunari. You seem to be able to choose whichever one you want. I'm going with the mages.

Not on my first playthrough. I always play evil first. I actually have a hard time playing good at all. I have 3 evil DA:O playthroughs and 1 good that still needs to complete Awakening.

That has nothing to do with the question.

My warden didn't, I don't see why my hawke should. Also if you think about Hawkes back story, particularly as a mage, I doubt she'd be a devoted servant to the maker when the chantry made it impossible for her father and sister to have normal lives.
That kind of annoyed me in DA:O. I could never say that my warden didn't believe in the maker without being called evil. I remember one of my Human nobles said it to the priestess in castle cousland, she got all snippy and basically told me to gtfo. I mean I understand that it's the medieval setting and people were a lot more religious then, but as we see with Morrigan, not everyone is a blind servant to the Chantry.
Makes me kind of happy to know that the chantry is falling apart in DA2

My hawke will believe in the maker but not be a devout andrastean (that looks spelt wrong, not sure), she will think that the chantry has distorted andraste's teachings for their own ends

Well, clarification, he/she will not believe in the Maker unless the game will already imply that they do without my consent, and then I will roleplay it just to keep continuity.

Lucky for you the fereldan's were generally nice people...say you aren't a christian in medieval europe and you were likely to be killed shortly thereafter.

Here here.

Giving Spirituality to Thedas (emotional introspection and the ability to redefine one's sense of identity) is arguably a good thing, but giving Faith (mental arrogance / belief unmoved by reason) to Thedas is arguably very, very bad - and has kind of created this whole Templar oppression culture.

The maker is real if the urn of sacred ashes is any indication.
