Hi All -

I recently had to upgrade my PC because if fell below minimum standards for DA2 and other games (Nvidia 7800 card and 1 GM RAM).  Since I know nothing about hardware, I usually just get a HP/Gateway/Dell prepackaged model, but I wanted to get the best graphics card to prolong the PC's life, so I went to a supplier I found on Nvidia's website.

I picked a company called Maingear and did what research I could online to see if they're reputable and any other information I could locate.  Has anyone out there ever had (or currently have) a Maingear PC?  What is/was your experience?  It's too late now for me to cancel I think (without paying a fee) and maybe I'm just leary because I feel I don't know enough about them first hand-- but any help you could offer would be appreciated.  I really just want to be reassured that you didn't have a lot of problems, their products are well made and they helped you with any problems you might have had.  No one in my family is mechanically inclined, so I'm always at the mercy of strangers I know little about.  I must add, though, if feels good to buy a computer from a smaller company rather than a big corporation Image IPB.

Thanks for any information you can help offer. Image IPB

Technically, your question is one that ought to be in the Off Topic Forum, at least, that's my opinion. That name is pretty generic sounding; before I try a Search myself, you want to add a URL for their site to your question?

I posted it here because there have been several other threads from people seeking help to replace their outdated computers by building one themselves, which I am unable to do. I really just wanted to know if anyone was familiar with Maingear computers and has one, or knows someone who does. The website for Maingear is: maingear.com.

Sorry if you feel it's in the wrong forum topic .

Its actually cheaper and better to buy each seperate part off a website aka(ncix.com) and get them to build it for you. You can handpick what you want.

Well, with these kinds of questions I think you're better off posting in the Tom's Hardware forums, but I'm happy to try and help. First though, what resolution is your monitor? I ask this just cuz it effects how powerful of a graphics card you need.

I apologize for the confusion -- I have already bought (but not received) the computer from Maingear. Sorry I didn't make that clearer. It's the type of place where you do pick each part of the computer I guess based upon the type of motherboard or CPU (not really sure how that works). I found what I thought was a good build based upon information from this forum, and others, of people building their own PCs.

I really was just curious if any of the incredibly knowledgeable people on this forum had ever heard of, or owned ,one of these Maingear PC's or maybe their reputation in the industry. What I read online seemed positive -- but then again, just about anyone can put just about anything on the internet -- it doesn't make it true.

If you can help, that would be great. If not, I guess I'll get what I get, and hope it's of great quality.

Sorry I have the Danish version of Windows
Type in "DxDiag" and hit return
This opens up the DirectX console up and from here you have access to all information about your system

What little I've read, Maingear seems to be a decent company. Did you choose one of their prebuilt systems?

CrustyCat,
I got the Vybe Super Stock where you pick the options you want.  The components are the latest available as far as I know, I just didn't know the companies reputation.  Thanks for your post.  Image IPB

Why not just wait for it to arrive? Then you can fire it up, test it, and see for yourself if it fits your expectations...not what other people tell you.
