I love RPGs, that's why I love DA2, because the streamlined inventory system and the new dialogue choices allowme to focus on the roleplaying. And not the roll-playing.

If inventory management is your idea of a good time, then i'm sure Wal-Mart has some openings for a stock manager in their local store.

QFT
I don't understand what is people's obsession with frustrating menus and managing inconsequential things.

I agree, but to play devil's advocate......Some degree of managing things might help to flesh out the game. I personally don't mind a little management, but if it is repetative management; I get annoyed.

Two things I hope to see in DA 2 (I have not seen the demo) are autolooting and 'rogue companion auto picks locks without having to swap to the companion and micromange it'    (like in neverwinter nights 2)

By the way,  DAO is far more similar to NWN2 than Baldurs gate. I like all of these games, but it seems strange to call DAO a succesor to BG when it is much closer to NWN2.

Autolooting isn't instant, but at least on the PC the loot menu doesn't
take up the whole screen and it has/can have a hotkey assigned to it. A
very welcomed change.

Any streamlining of looting is welcome.

As I said before, Bioware may lose some fans with DA2 but they will win WAY more new ones. In the end, this is what matters most. Video games like any other entertainment form is a business!

Yep. I'm sure that the Call of Duty fanbase will be on this like white on rice.

... Or maybe they'll just turn their eyes to Battlefield 3.

CoD fans and Battlefield fans are different. Sure some of them like both but when the next CoD comes out and BF3 comes out, don't expect 7 million BF3 copies in one day.

Also I agree with the thing someone said about the invetory stuff. The more time I spend on forums and such the more I realise most people think that long skill trees, loot, managing inventory and grind make a game RPG. This is why they bi*ch about ME2 calling it a 3rd person shooter and now DA2 an action game.
You people are misguided and I pity you. You clearly don't know what makes a game RPG.

Are you really going to ****ing try and dictate to someone what constitutes a rpg? Really?

There are lots of little things I dislike about it. Biggest one is the main character, which is unfortunately pretty big. Still If I can find and NPC I like I'll just play as them and use Hawke to drive the story forward.

I believe that both games (da:o / da2) both have their merits and that people should stop saying that one game is ABSOLUTELY better then the other. The fact is that they are two different games and they should both be enjoyed (or not) for what they are and their respective merits instead of people ****ing about how they should be in their opinion.

I don't play games for their "respective merits". I can also refuse to play the games "as intended".

As DG put it in one interview about DA2: "A lot of is at the end of the day, you have to think about who your market segment is."

Even BW has admitted to whom DA2 has been designed.

This is the road to damnation, but I do believe RPGs are defined by the first two letters. Whatever else is a bonus.

Even BW has admitted to whom DA2 has been designed.

Well..actually they use. It is just that they had to cover the eyes with badass red smoke or else the market segment would had said "I don't want to look like that"

I loved DAO/DAA and though I may miss things from those in DA2, I'm sure I'll still love it.

Anyone in these forums could give their ideas on how to make DA2 as they see perfect. I bet you no one could make it so everyone would love it. People love to complain. They find something to pick apart someone's hard work. It's a lose/lose situation in that way.

Overall, this game will be a success I believe. I'm looking forward to it.

I have a question for you; who isn't a member of the Call Of Duty fanbase these days? It's like saying someone's a member of the Coke fanbase.

Games are not mutually exclusive.

They certainly aren't but I'm just not seeing the mainstream appeal of Dragon Age II. It's trashed on pretty much every mainstream site out there for looking outdated and boring. Personally, I think BioWare has committed a huge blunder in trying to pander what is essentially an oldschool fantasy RPG to a crowd with NOTHING but resentment towards that formula. But hey, don't take my word for it. Just head on over to gametrailers and read about their impressions. It's certainly not pretty.

In many ways Dragon Age II reminds me of that nerdy kid trying oh so desperately to appear hip in front of his peers and failing miserably at every turn. It's just kind of depressing.

Maybe in BW forums.

In official IL-2 dev forum the dev said something like "without your feedback IL-2 would had never become even in 1 million years what it is. So keep it coming, guys." You see, some can stand criticism. And if you would know what kind of wars and nagging has happened in IL-2 forums you would not talk a thing about criticism in BW forums.

Apparently, you have to suffer through games to get your little "HARDCORE RPGER" sticker.

Me? I like to enjoy my games. So I agree with you op, DA2 does feel like it was built for me. Luckily I don't look at game genres as social castes.

Stands to reason the wider gamer community is a lot less "forgiving" than Bioware fans.

I don't play CoD but I do play Killzone. I don't really like the "real" war stuff. See enough of it anyway.

Guys who made Killzone said the same thing. KZ3 is better in almost every respect than KZII but I still miss those "boss" fights. Although KZ3 has some epic set pieces.

And this response reflects my feelings on all of the arguments that DA2 is somehow less of an RPG than it's predecessor.

I would be curious to see the Demo feedback thread divided into a PC thread and a console thread. A month's salary says that the majority of people who love the demo and think DA2 is "made for them" are probably console gamers. Those of us who play PC are probably much more disappointed in the direction of the sequel.

Me? Well yeah, to experience the story I will have to suffer big time in DA2. Kung-fu badass combat is total immersion killer for me. That is not however a new experience. For the sake of story I have went through it even in some jrpgs.

As for the stickers, I am interested of the "ultimate tactician" sticker. It is given to those who win the game in harderst difficulty setting without any of the party members ever dying in combat (preferably in Nethack style no-reload way). But since masses felt bad by "being forced to play in nightmare difficulty" there is no such sticker for me to have great fun in getting and showing.

There is a difference between feedback and useless whining that won't change a thing.  There are plenty of posts that give constructive critisism.  That's all I'm stating.  No big deal.  Not trying to start some kind of petty flame war.

No, you are special when you insert your DA2 disc to xpoks and hear "Whooosh-DING" and "ACHIEVEMENT EARNED!!" text rolling on the screen.
