WARNING: Riddle answer below.

I know the answer because I succumbed and looked on the forum. Now, I'd like to know HOW that is the answer.
"Nine are we when taken all three / Last one slain, then six remain / None survive our first lest five."
From this, I believe I've deduced the following:
1) The first line states all three digits start at nine before the other clues are applied.
2) The third line states the first digit is five.
I cannot tell what the second line means, though I believe it refers to the last digit.

-Nine are we when taken all three: 5+1+3=9
-Last one slain, then six remain: 5+1=6
-None survive our first lest five: First digit is 5. You got that one correct.

-Nine are we when taken all three: 5+1+3=9

Taken all three = Adding up all three digits. The result must be 9.

-Last one slain, then six remain: 5+1=6

Remove the last digit. The other two add up to 6.

-None survive our first lest five: First digit is 5. You got that one correct.

Pretty self-explanatory. "First" and "five" are the key words.

If you don't get it now... I guess you'll have to live with it.
