Hrm. I think you may be confused as to what GMT time is. :P 0000 GMT would actually be 1900 EST on the day before.

I think an intern simply screwed up setting the times on the securom server myself.

So wait, the game is going to unlock at 7pm est march 7th? (For me)

Did you bother to read the post I was quoting and responding to?  The person was suggesting the reason almost no one is getting 0000 as their unlock time when running their release date checker is because it's 0000 GMT, and thus you'd get times that weren't 0000. He failed at understanding time zones though, hence my response showing that the release time possibly being 0000 GMT being responsible for people having 0300, or 0400, or 0700, or any other non 0000 time simply doesn't wash.

At this point, no one really knows WHEN the release is SUPPOSED to unlock, since Chris says 0000, while the actual software says another time (in my case, 0300). However, unless something is changed, the only thing that matters is what your Release Date Checker software says when run from the Dragon Age Launcher, not what Chris has posted on the first page. Our hope is that someone just screwed up, and that prior to 0000 March 8th, they will have fixed it so our Release Date Checkers actually say 0000. :D

The only logical explanation I've seen for the weird USA release times is that for some odd reason they decided to make the release date 0000 Alaska time. :P Since I've seen plenty of CST people with 0300 and plenty of EST people with 0400. Of course someone in one of those timezones may very well not be bothering to post on the forums at all and may have a different time alltogether, so who knows at this point what the logic behind the current times on the actual securom servers is.

This is why we're hoping come Monday there might be more of a Bioware presence on the forums and one of them might shed light on the discrepancy between what the securom server is saying and what Chris is saying. :)

@kjdhgfiliuhwe very well said, I actually read through all of that and you are probably right, the unlocking times might be in gmt, and hopefully they will change it to reflect time zones soon.

If you read what I said, you'd realize it is absolutely NOT in GMT. It's possible it's in Alaska time, but that makes no sense. I mean, I could imagine that for some reason the securom server is located in Alaska and some worker input 0000 as the unlock time, hence the weird unlock times for everyone, but that's just my imagination going wild. Hence the waiting for clarification.

Alaska time fits for me. I live in +3 GMT and my unlock is sheduled for 12:00. Ordered game at gamersgate.com.

There was a person from South Africa (1 page earlier) and his|her unlock is sheduled for 11:00 same day. It prooves Alaska time theory as well.

Yea, it is a very strange timezone to base the unlock off of. Here's hoping it's an oversight on their part. :D

mine was over 6 GB from EA as well. I've also been able to set settings to very high, and basically max out everything. It makes me think some downloadable editions come loaded with the high res textures already.

No they do not Mike Laid Law and Melo said it wasn't included in any of the versions. Its just the digital distributors use their own compression in conjuction with DA2 already being compressed.

High Res Textures has nothing...NOTHING to do with setting your game detail to Very High. Please take a closer look at your configuration menu.

As for the size discrepancy...who knows. Different compression techniques?

Ah ok I see it now, it does help to actually read the config menu. Yeah, probably is a case of different compression technique, or a higher compression ration.

I am wondering about the HIGH RES TEXTURE download...
I have the game downloaded from D2D, but they dont get updates up quick on there usually. Were as Steam and Impulse downlaod updates right away. Will I be able to download the Hihg Res Texture package download form the EA website and use it for D2D versino of Dragon Age2?

Thanks for any help, I just want to be playing with the HIGH RES TEXTURE package on tuesday when the game unlocked, not waiting for a d2d update.

Everyone asking about the High Res Textures; Bioware explained it here (too many threads moving way too fast):

The High Res Textures will be downloaded from this site. It's anyone's guess as to how long it might take with the amount of people slamming the servers to download it though (think the demo and the initial slam that had many people weeping at the slow speeds). It's possible they learned from that and prepared, but you should also be prepared to it possibly not being a quick download.

They've said they hope to have it up on Monday though, or at least prior to the 0000 release so that we have a chance to have it in hand already when we start playing. You'll have to keep checking back, since they haven't said they will definitively.

Based on the evidence presented so far, I am going to pull a Sherlock Holmes and say you must live in EST!

Seeing as Chris is obviously on the forums right this minute (he just locked a thread a minute ago), it'd be great if he popped in here and told us if the unlock time is supposed to be based on 0000 Alaska time or not. :P

So, 0000h i assume means midnight GMT? So, if I go to a midnight release tomorrow night, soon as I get home I can install and play, since the "release" online wise was 8 hours ago for me (I am in Central US Time Zone)

that is the reason why some people purchased the digital preload version.

I will be super pissed if the game really unlocks at 5pm instead of 0000 on March 8. I would go further and say its an advertising scam since Bioware has said "Unlocking is based on the official game release date for the region you live in for Asia/Pacific region – 0000h on March 8th" and the "Pre-load. Play it first" slogan on the EA store.
