Steam is the greatest thing to happen to gaming in years.
Blame the companies and the retail stores for forcing 3AM launches not Steam.
It took me 7 mins to preload! 1.5 MB per sec.

I'm NOT Thrilled about them not specifying PST either. I knew when I got my Cataclsym from Blizzard that it wouldn't unlock till 3:00, I didn't find out on this until I just tried to run it a little earlier to put the configs right on the textures. It was a complete let down. I understand why on MMO's they have to do the universal time, because people level up faster than others and all that. But on this, there's people getting it days before others... and the only ones actually getting 'punished' are the ones who bought the PC version. It's a long game, is being able to play three hours before someone else on a single player game really going to effect THEIR enjoyment? Because being able to play only a tiny bit before sleep certainly effects mine.

you might not be thrilled, but you should probably realize that it's REALLY NOT A BIG DEAL

That's a shame. I was really looking forward to staying up during my night off and playing the game I have preloaded on Steam. I guess I'll go to Denny's for some pancakes or something...

Thanks, Chris. GJ with not being correct (or specific enough) with the unlock times.

If your EADM is not letting you download, try logging out then logging back in (note: NOT exiting and restarting, but logging out then in). Worked for me yesterday.
Tried re-logging multiple times, didn't work. Oh well, guess I have to wait till the 11th.

Ultimately its not a very big deal but its a problematic practice to put locks on games in the first place of this nature. Using wow as an example at least they mentioned that it would be a PST unlocking time for cataclysm but the poor folk that did midnight releases on EST, CST, MST for the US were greeted with the inability to play a game they legally purchased.
Now for an MMO there's nothing you can do about it however for a single player game with no multiplayer there bad options. I would likely prefer some form of DRM as opposed to this as having legally purchased the game and it being the 8th now I wouldn't mind actually being able to play my game.
As stated its not that big of a deal but why not just not bother with midnight releases at all if half the country can't really capitalize on it.

Is it going to make me rant about suing and false advertising and all that? No. Is it disappointing? Yes. There's a reason the saying is 'the straw that broke the camel's back' and not 'hey, that huge two ton beam that broke the camel's back'. I'm not even saying this is the last straw, because it isn't. But little things do add up and have an influence on your perception of a company over time. It's just bad business sense to fail to mention that by 'midnight' they meant 'midnight PST'. There's other time zones in the US and someone did bring up...we don't go in the US "Look, we can't celebrate the New Years until it hits midnight in California." Why? Because we recognize we have different time zones. These things are normally clarified, it wasn't, and now people who have things they DO have to do tomorrow on the east coast will only be able to barely see more than what the demo let them see. People wanting to riot in the streets is silly. But those who got their hopes up and are simply disappointed aren't being irrational for it.
