the deadline was a simple and often used marketing trick, it's not EA's fault that the retailers have failed in it's use. You put a deadline to push people to pre-order/buy early to get those initial big number sales which speak about the popularity of the game and create more hype which turns into more sales and more revenue. And people should realize Collectors Edition (Signature Edition) is usually a LIMITED TIME & LIMITED AMOUNT sold item.

Are we at fault then? Even though we've had no idea of the SUDDEN cancelation, and even though we were assured that we'd get a copy of the Signature Edition?

Why have these retailers failed to understand the promotion though? I'd really like a proper explanation, from Bioware/EA since I'm posting here at the moment, so that I know who I can be angry with.

How much did you pay so far? That is how much anger you are afforded...

Let's see... There's the original DA:O, got the Collector's Edition of that, there's Awakenings, and there's even the Ultimate Edition. Other Bioware games I've bought included ALL of the Neverwinter Nights, OC and expansions, Jade Empire, Everything from Baldur's Gate. I believe I have Mass Effect somewhere as well.

If it's EA we're discussing, then there's the Sims series, various expansions included too. There's probably a buttload more of other EA games, but I can't think of them at the top of my head at the moment.

If you're talking about Play-Asia, there's a whole section of a shelf for PS3, Xbox360 and Wii games that I've ordered from them.

And for both of them, I have the potential 70-90 bucks with the Signature Edition. It's not much compared to the rest of my purchases, but it's still something. So yeah, how much anger does that afford me?

If its a marketting ploy I hope it involves a fully robotic Archdemon and some dude killing it by riding its head around. That'd be awesome, also Hilarius as he'd probably get thrown off a lot.

The cancellations are like a blight, spreading through the land, creating chaos and disapproval. Wonder if this is a marketing ploy. ;)

Best simile ever. xD

I know another brilliant marketing ploy: let's market M-rated games to teenagers.

I have never had a problem preordering a game from Amazon, Walmart, or Gamestop. My sig edition is set to arrive on my doorstep on March 8. This does sound fishy but there appears to be a logical explanation. Many retail chains, not used to having to order collector (sig) editions of a game title so many weeks before release (by an early date in January as opposed to stocking up in late feb for an early March release), failed to properly adhere to the time restrictions on the DA2 deadline. This falls in line perfectly with why these issues are coming up late feb/early march.

So, the retail chain says, "hey EA, we need 600 se DA2 copies." EA says, "ok that will be $42,000 (obviously less because the retail chain purchases in bulk, but this price is $70 a copy)." The retail chain says, "No, they are supposed to be $60 a piece, or $36,000." EA says, "You missed the deadline. We can no longer ship them to you at that price." The retail chain says, "Well we are not taking a $6,000 loss. So we will blame you for this mistake." EA says, "That's your choice and it is also your fault. You should have taken heed to the dates that were sent to you when you first began taking SE orders."

Who loses? The customers, unfortunately. Until either the retail chains own up to their mistake or EA decides to flip the bill out of respect for customer loyalty, we the consumers pay the price.

Yeah, I think the problem is that retailers did not place their orders for the SE edition in time.  I don't know how it works, how long in advance a retailer has to order games for their stores.  However, it would seem logical that EA expected an exact order for the SE editions shortly after January 11th and that many retailers did not put the order in in time.

I think the problem is that retailers have more games to worry about than just DAII.  Maybe you want to say it's their fault for not having placed the orders for the SE in time.  Yet, I don't think retailers have ever had to do such a thing and expecting them to change their work habits and to give special attention to just one game seems foolish.

They probably placed the orders when they normally would have placed them, not right after the deadline, and this probably was too late for EA to be able to fulfill the amount of SE ordered.  So in the end, I feel it is EA's fault because they expected retailers to give special attention to the requirements of this SE.  Retailers don't just have this game to sell and I feel it is ridiculous to have expected them to know that they had to place their orders before a certain date.

Judging by EA's blunder with Dead Space 2's DLC for PC, pre-order bonuses already on disc yet locked, I'm hoping the same is true for DAII hahaha.

I wouldn't have thought such a big online retailer as Play Asia would mess up their orders like this, but I guess I thought wrong.

Mistakes happen.
Often the response is bigger than anyone would like to take the blame for though.

Once again, THIS IS FALSE.

We made Signature Editions to order. So if "X" store asked for 100 copies, we made 100 copies. We have enough stock for all orders made within the promotional offer time period. Any discrepancy is the fault of the retailer.

LOCKDOWN!
