I'll be playing it on Nightmare from the start, though I'm still not certain on my party.

For Origins, I'd say the most powerful party is clearly Tank/3 Mages, but I obviously cannot say if that will be the case in DA2.

Aveline will likely be the default/required Nightmare tank, unless Hawke gets so many more talents than other companions to make up for the lack of Aveline's spec that Tank Hawke is viable.

Do we know anything about Anders' spec? He was a Spirit Healer in Awakening; if his spec has anything to do with healing, then he would likely be the default/required healer as well. I'm not sure how I feel about these "unique" trees and their potential unbalancing of "optimal" Nightmare party compositions, but I'll wait and see for myself if they'll really skew things to such a degree.

With this in mind, I'm currently thinking Aveline/Rogue Hawke/Anders/(Merill/Bethany) or Tank Hawke/Bethany/Anders/Merill.This is all still pure speculation, of course

Based on demo, healing may be nerfed. Can anyone confirm if this is so?  I remember a dev saying that combat would be less about survival and more about bringing the pain ASAP.

I think if you played DA:O on nightmare, this one on nightmare is going to be a piece of cake. Give it a try people :D

Judging from what some bioware posters say, the intent is exactly the contrary. Nightmare mode should be 'unfair'.

Similar to what I was thinking, although I assume hawke will get a nice bump with the spec classes. Aveline looks OP but I don't really want to use her if I can avoid it, her character is bleh. I will prob try out dual mages at first, even with how much weaker they are, they still have the only heals, great buffs and CC. Was thinking tank hawke, Isabela dps, Bethany CC/heal/buff and Merrill CC/heal/buff. Potions still seem redic too maybe even better then the first game.

Why not? I'll give it a try. Never did Nightmare on DAO, but Insanity on ME2 is kinda easy. I was gonna do hard anyway, but may as well kick it up a notch. Bam!

@JensenBakura - I am SO serious about this. I've lost total faith in your ability to truly master Nightmare mode - your hardcore-ness is in question.

I propose we incorporate Kevin Sorbo's face here into the banner. It's the perfect combination of casual arrogance and campiness to pull off the "Yeah, I beat Nightmare on my first try. What of it?" feel.

Healing seemed way worse in the demo, but I doubt you can just burst down a boss on nightmare, going to need it even if its gimpy. It's only like 2 points to get it anyway on a mage. Not sure if we know anytihng about spirit healer? Prob be required = =

a friend of mine play with a non legal xbox 360 copy (he did buy the game but he didn't want to wait, shame on him).

So i'm going to this guy home and i played like 2 hours with him (shame on me :o ). Nightmare on da2 his a real nightmare. The mob are insanely powerfull, when you take a blow you're knockback and they chain you like mad ( he play rogue).

You made a mistake (letting you're mage take some aggro ?) you pay dearly. It's faaar more difficulte than da:o nightmare. Some kritter combat are supremely difficulte (what a surprise when out a house 10 warrior was waiting for us ( just one of them 2 shot a light armored character).

sometimes i can be very frustrating but in a good way :) you reload and you retry with a new strategy. Hope all the game is like that ;) da:o was too easy when you pass the painfull beginning.

Well I do love a challenge, DAO nightmare was pretty easy for me...
This sounds deliciously hard though .

I don't know if it's any challenge at all if nightmare difficulty is as easy as it was in DAO or insanity in ME2.

SHAME!
But I'm not going to let your indiscretion stop me from learning valuable intel hehe. I was already leaning towards the mage for my first playthrough, and I think your post has confirmed it.  More crowd control seems just what the doctor ordered for this game.

Yeah I'm liking the changes to NM compared to other games. ME2, DAO, was all just boost in HP and dmg on there end. Simple trade off thing. Well was some AI boost in ME2 as far as how aggressive they where.

DA2 though looks like A LOT of little things on top of that to really push things. Like bleeding out at 10% hp and enemy abilities gaining new effects only in nightmare, on top of them being more aggressive and all that.

I'll join up, personally planned to start on NM anyways. Not sure I'll make that 'year 1 no knock outs' though heh.

Nightmare from the get go from me as well, don't care if healing or anything else is nerfed. I do that on basically every game with optional difficulties (unless they're locked at first).

Just can't wait for a hardcore mod. When the whole party dies, all game saves associated with that character are deleted :homer simpson drool:.

Kevin Sorbo only plays games with a hardcore mode. (and that bs Bethesda gave us in New Vegas doesn't count)

I kinda miss having to raise dead/resurrect my fallen buddies in BG2 (yes yes, I know it isn't viable within the lore of Thedas). Was never badass enough not to reload after one of them got splattered though :?

Mount&Blade warband has an option to only allow you to save&exit. Though you can't die there, but lose a battle and you lose all troops you had under your command, gold and some of your items.

Wow. You made a good case for a nightmare 1st run through. I'll have to think about it... Is there a deadline to sign up?
