I will try the Claymore eventually. Propably. It just seems a bit wasteful how overkill it is against most enemies. Then again, that's exactly why I love the Widow. Hmm...
On Insanity Claymore is the only SG that (reliably) one-shots normal mooks. All the other shotguns can't though one or two melee attacks are usual sufficient to deal with the remaining health. The cool thing about the Claymore is its unforgiveness - (half) missing an enemy is really bad and can easily get you killed. That's why I love this weapons so much: it's very powerful, but no room for mistakes and it suits the Vanguard all or nothing playstyle perfectly.

A question though, how do you build Kasumi? Do you ignore her passive, overload, or shadow strike? I've tried to ignore her passive but she just seems to die so fast that way.
Ignore her passive and go for Rapid-SS - she will kill most enemies down to 2/3 health easily and when she cloaks she basically becomes invincible. Enemies can't see her and don't shoot her. Using SS liberally basically makes Kasumi one of the most durable squadmates in ME2. You do want to keep an eye on her during her LM though.

Nice guide, and even nicer xboxin'. Hmm, maybe I should try a NG+ game with the Claymore, both are my least favorite ways to play though. I think I'll give it a shot, it does look real exciting. A question though, how do you build Kasumi? Do you ignore her passive, overload, or shadow strike? I've tried to ignore her passive but she just seems to die so fast that way.
Evolve Flashbang to Improved Flashbang (frag grenade is completely useless, as you aren't using this power for damage), and Overload into Area Overload. I bring Kasumi along on every single mission because of how well she compliments my playstyle. Korlus would be a perfect example - In the first half, I map Area Overload so I can get quick Slam Bombs on the enemies I can't charge, and then I switch her to Improved Flashbang when it's time to bring the Claymore out again. You can have some fun with Shadow Strike too, I'll try and make a video about it.
Long story short, I am of the opinion that Kasumi is the best squadmate in the game (for this build, at least), because she's just so damn versatile. ALL of her powers are amazing.
-She can stagger enemies/knock them down/overheat their weapons/disable their biotics (STOP SHEPARD) over what I'm pretty sure is the biggest radius in the game.
-She can strip shields with Overload for 3 button Warp bombs.
-She can do huge damage uncontested, for free, and safely get back to cover, for free! Not to mention the ridiculous cooldown reduction on kill with Rapid Shadow Strike. It also distracts enemies, and puts their attention behind them, taking some heat off you with the tougher ones.

I see your points. Even with one shot from a Scimitar on insanity, 1-3 melee attacks are usually enough to finish off most common enemies. Depending on if aiming for the head and the armor parts (and why wouldn't vanguard players use armor parts that up melee damage). The limited margin for error with the Claymore is definitely interesting.

I also added a section on armor to the OP, give that a look, and get yourself all nice and pretty to fly around tearing **** up!

I have no choice but to try this and get myself killed. Because, damn, that looks like too much fun.
DO IT! I will go out on a limb and say it's the most fun you can have in Mass Effect 2. It's definitely the most fun I've had, and I already loved the game. Post here if you have questions or need help!

It's been a while since the last time I played that sequence, but I think I remember using stasis was pretty good vs those drones... I don't remember if it instakills them or something, but at the very least it helps cc one or two of 'em while you're out in the open.
Keep it up!

Per ScroguBlitzen's request, I've recorded the Defending the Hatch portion of the Lair of the Shadow Broker DLC. Check it out, I think it might be the most awesome one yet.

Another sweet video, you know I haven't seen many vanguard claymore defend the hatch vids, but that's easily one of the best if not the best I've seen. Great job.

Stupid youtube. :<
I usually use that armor setup on my Vanguards, with the exception of Stimulator Conduits instead of Kestrel Power Pack.

Agreed, that was a nice hatch defense.

Do you always turn off Squad Power Usage as seen in one of the vids? I really wonder, how you can handle the vicious action of your Vanguard Shepard AND controll your squad mates simultanously in real time.
Squad power usage off is the way to go. You can map squad abilities to hotkeys (both on PC and consoles) and use them when you need them.

Agreed. With fewer (and more awkward) hotkeys for the consoles, it can slow gameplay down somewhat, but if you're not making videos that doesn't matter all that much. I've seen too many of Miranda's Warps thud uselessly into walls to ever leave her in charge of her abilities again.

Sure, a keyboard hosts enough keys to bind every ability of the squad, unluckily my hand has not enough fingers to reach all of them. Or my fingers are not as nimble as it is necessary for that kind of gameplay. Honestly, I find controlling Shepard alone in real time is a challange. Of course, as always practice is the key to success, but this leads me to another question: How often did play certain scenes, before you perfomed as shown in the vids?
I gave this build a try (ME1 lvl 60 Character Import - ME 2 start lvl 5) on Insanity and I cannot say, that it is a good idea to charge right into battle in the Mordin rec mission (first thing done). Squad support is neglectable and finally, after many failed tries of different aggressive approaches, I returned to a more defensive style and most enemies fell to boring slam´n´warp combos. Maybe a lvl 7 Vanguard is simply not strong enough to unfold their full potential as in the vids.
Probably I should first get used to Vanguard playstyle and complex hotkey usage on a lower difficulty before I mess with the best. Did you play your Vanguards from scratch on insanity or with a lvl 30 ME 2 import?

Sorry to the non-US guys who can't watch the vid, I wish there was something I could do
EDIT: I did my first ever Vanguard playthrough on Insanity importing a level 40 character, so it's definitely possible, you just get less wiggle-room on mistakes, and have to adapt faster. I think it's better that way, actually, but I understand that it's not for everyone.
DOUBLE EDIT: I usually record around 5 run-throughs of whatever I'm doing, then I watch them myself, and upload whichever one is most fun to watch. The Hatch Defense one actually took a bit longer because I charged off the map (literally charged and flew off the ship and died) LIKE FOUR TIMES.

I've recently tried this build and it was very fun on hardcore, next up is Insanity. My playstyle is more conservative and I tend to go for a warpbomb before charging but you've given me some nice ideas.
Thanks for sharing!

I've added a new video, and though it is not standard fare, I believe this will, without a doubt, cement my place in history as the greatest Vanguard ever.
Vanguard Inception
Vanguards are very special - the more they die the stronger they will be reborned (reload). Most Vanguards will eventually lose all interest in combat because even the silliest charge (charging a preatorian) will no longer get them killed (mostly anyways) and they tend to do silly charges because they want to feel the "heat" of combat they so misses.

Would you guys have any interest in a tutorial video with audio commentary on a mission/pointers, so you can see and learn what I'm thinking when I play, as a supplement to the text guide? I'll be happy to make one if people feel it would be helpful.
Its always good to see any 360 videos posted. You obviously have some skills so any hints we can pick up on gameplay will be great.

I think it could be beneficial for people who still have difficulty with the reload trick or Vanguarding in Style (yes I am calling it that.
