Yep, weapon overload causes those insanely long cooldowns. But I have found a way to bypass that (sort of). You can throw bomb the sh!t out of  that demo with adepts and sentinels (throw can have a cooldown reset, if you cause a biotic combo). I wrote a short guide on how to spam Throw bombs about every four seconds in the demo. Check it out, if ur interested. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9247536/1

Also, you count me in as well AreleX. Dunno how much I'll be playing this weekend, but I'll jump in, if/when I can. It will be nice to have some people that actually know how to play this game. So, yeah...

Just tried it out and finished it on insanity - throw bombs are amazing.
I didn't realise they could be used as a biotic combo, it gives quite a nice 'omph' haha.

Also, is it just me or are the cover-system controls slightly clunky? Had this annoying tendency to roll everywhere instead of taking cover - and it seems that enemy fire, at least turret-fire, is a lot more punishing than before.

Anyway, multiplayer should be interesting. Two more days before it's available right?

The new cover system can be pretty terrible, yeah. I had that very same problem you mentioned as well, and it occurs because the new mechanic is half assed and thus feels sort of unreliable and clunky. It's basically a blatant Gears copy, but they failed to do it right. I hope they improved it somewhat for the final game, otherwise it will just take some getting used to, I guess.
I think the main reason why enemy fire, especially sustained turret fire feels more punishing, is because there is no brief invincibility moment when your shields/barriers break, like it was in ME2. You do get a slowdown effect, but it doesn't really help you all that much, other than it notifes you that your defenses are gone and gives you an extra second to react.

Multiplayer should be available for everyone on the 17th.

You pick a class and go basically. You only get one race per class from the start. Later, you can unlock other races from buying packs with credits you earn from playing MP, and unlocks are random, wich is pretty retarded.
I'm not sure about the weapons, but my guess would be they unlock via packs, just like the races.

Talking to somone that's playing now. The higher level pack you buy the higher the chance (supposedly) of unlocking better equipment etc. However being random he just bought a 20k pack and received new armour colours for his character

Yeah I tried a throwbombing run with a sentinel. Worked ok, but boring cause you were just doing one thing.

Vanguard was OK except for slow cooldowns. I evolved charge all the way and took the 25% chance of no CD. That was fun. Made the final fight interesting. Charge and Nova (or the other way around) should become the bread-and-butter vanguard move. Cryo ammo looks much more worthwhile as well. Heavy melee is an ammo-less kill on a opponent you've charged...if he has no buddies around. Rolled a soldier with squad cryo as well. Decent CC. CC will become much more important due to how AI aggro works now.

Yep. that random unlock thing is just stupid.

Also, to correct my previous statement, Claymore is in fact available in MP (also as I random unlock, I guess?). There is a thread in the MP section, where everyone is saying how bad it is compared to other shotguns. Mainly, because other lighter version shotguns get the job done just as well, and with the new weight vs. power cooldown system, Claymore adds a considerable amount of CD. So that means less Charging, wich is bad. Even Kronner said it was inferior overall compared to other shotguns.

I know it might be too early to pass judgement, but the way this looks at the moment is not good. Because, if you think about it, Claymore really wasn't all that superior of a weapon in ME2. It mainly offered a different playstyle, since shotguns were pretty balanced overall, and all of them were pretty efficient in thier own way.
But now, that weight penalty completely changes things. Now it seems light version shotguns will have a huge advantage over Claymore, since they can get the job done just as well, plus enable faster cooldowns, thus adding way more survivability (more Charging) for Vanguards.
I really hope it won't be as bad as it looks right now.

Not really related to mp but I just did a melee adept (sp, not mp) which was kinda fun. (On insanity.)

Requires a lot of pause-play and dying due to the rather silly cover-system, but there's a certain satisfaction to laying a biotic smack down on those cerberus douchebags.
Also, I really love the new tendency to roll past cover and get shot in the face.

Anyway, when you're running up and whacking people you only need enough powers for crowd-control so cooldowns aren't quite as big an issue. Maintaining crowd control is kinda tough without pause-play, but between liara's singularity/stasis and garrus' concussive shot most of the enemies can be kept in almost permanent crowd control.

Heavy melee is pretty good when using pause-play to aim/judge distances - at normal speeds the combat is sometimes too fast to make contact otherwise. But enemies often try to stand their ground and pull out swords, which is kinda funny.
Besides the slight tendency to miss, heavy melee is pretty good in that it sorta crowd-controls the enemy getting hit. The bad part is how it does this by sending them flying - and thus out of range.
Hitting them when they're on the ground (screw ethics) helps to reduce this; cue concussive shots. Also, with luck enemies can be sent flying off ledges.

After using the heavy melee to make a kill, the +75% melee damage probably makes the faster normal melee better.
Haven't experimented too much with this, but based on the demo I'm pretty sure a melee shepard should be possible in the main game. Probably won't be so effective in the mp.

Kinda want to try a cloaking melee assassin now.

I've played a bit of MP. Its a lot of fun if done right. I am terrible at it but there's some awesome stuff out there. I haven't unlocked any species yet, but played on a random team with a krogan Soldier. Man that is awesome. Just run around shotgunning and krogan charging everything! I was playing infiltrator so I just ran around behind him and tried to pick off mooks with headshots.

Total party kills a couple of times with Phantoms. Been playing Bronze mostly.

Trust me there's plenty of fun to be had building the right characters, and other species element definitely adds something to the gameplay.

I sometimes wonder who the playtesters are for Bioware games. Everything was nice and balanced in ME2, but now the new weight system really screwed Claymore Vanguards. Oh well, fingers crossed they patch this sh!t day one, for MP & SP as well. Otherwise they might get another Willam C. Dietz to deal with. lol

I tried it yesterday and it works rather well. You can get +40% melee damage from a cloak upgrade, and an aditional +60% melee damage for fitness passive. Nomal mooks can be taken down in one heavy melee hit from cloak, protected enemies (centurions and engineers) require Garrus' Overload prior to to the hit, however.
Also, note that enemies can now spot you, if you get in too close and linger around too long wihile in cloak (confirmed by one of the devs), so try hitting them from max heavy melee range, if possible and be quick about it. I almost got killed a couple of times, thinking I was invisible and then they started shooting at me. It's not a huge issue, and I kinda like it tbh, because it forces you to act fast and sneaky.

how did you get access? that fb thing?
i can't check atm, but it wouldn't be open to the public yet.. they never release things early :/

@relix28 - haha this is awesome! it's practically built for melee assassinations. way better than the biotic punch/push thing.

also, do you think the first extra cloak damage applies generally or just to weapons? Because if it applies generally, that would explain how powerful melee attacks become. I found it easier to drop atlas' armour with cloaked melee attacks than with weapons (although using weapons and cover generally promotes a longer happier life-span).

I can't tell if it's just that I'm getting better at this game, but it seems that even with the ridiculous cooldowns insanity isn't too hard. I wonder what made them decide to remove basic levels of protection from standard enemies (and thus make them vulnerable to crowd control)

Asari adept is my new favourite thing in MP. Stasis owns Phantoms (the only real hard enemy in the demo as it is capable of one-shotting your character in melee range) and the dodge animation is fantastic. Finally the heavy melee is AoE, meaning no need for pesky aiming nonsense and capable of taking on multiple targets (like nova).

If you unlock it, give it a serious go.

I heard they were pretty ridiculous, yeah. I'll definitelly try it out. If I manage to get lucky enough to unlock it, that is. Ugh, I hate random unlocks.

I haven't tested it yet, so I'm not really sure. But, if I were to guess, I would say it applies to all forms of damage done from cloak. It would probably be specified, if it were otherwise.

As for the enemies not having protections, it's pretty ridiculous how easy it is to CC whole groups in a matter of seconds. IMO, they did it because of all that "Biotics suck in this game" rage that has been going on forever. If enemies are going to be mostly unprotected like they were in the demo, fast cooldown CC abilities (like thorw and singularity) are going to pretty much trivialize just about any potenitaly challeng fight. Right now in the demo, Liara herself can CC with Singularity every 4 seconds, lol.
It's probably too early to judge the whole game just by that slightly underwhelming demo, though. I guess we'll have to wait and see how it turns out in the full game.

Since Arelex is probably still busy playing the multiplayer, I think I could just add the app and invite you? I'll add you on fb. Kinda running out of interesting things to read on reddit, so might as well give multiplayer a shot.

Hopefully this works:

Once they install the app and link their Origin account (or make one and link it), you should both unlock early MP access and be able to start playing (xbox and PC only).

Anyway, yeah, that's what I thought. So it'll actually be even more than 40% + 60%, but maybe (40% + 60%)*extra damage... meh. Basically it might be more powerful than shotgunning from up close - especially if there are armour/upgrades to further improve melee damage.
Pure speculation of course.

Ontopic:
Arelex, Mr_afk, good games on friday. It was a blast to play with you guys. Mr_afk mostly got the hang with his Adept, Arelex was providing some great support with his Sniper Sentinel, and my Vanguad, after struggling a little at low lvl.s, went completely balistic later on with a combo of Charge, Nova and Schimitar/Katana. Good times. :D

I will probably be online later today, so send me an invite, if ur up for some carnage.
