I'm surprised at how many people dislike Wynne. She certainly likes to teach, but that's most likely because she's a senior enchanter with the circle; no doubt her years spent educating has increased her habit of giving advice.  She reminds me of some of my professors I've had during my college years; professors of philosophy, politics, psychology, and so on, who have developed particular idealogical beliefs that intenionally (and often unintentially) shows through when teaching, giving advice, or simply while having a conversation during a coffee break.  Maybe I'm not annoyed because I'm just used to it, lol.

Personally it isn't because Wynne tries to lecture the Warden it's that she tries to lecture the Warden about things she knows nothing about.  Wynne is not a Warden, aside from Ostagar she's never served with the Wardens, she has no idea what being a Grey Warden is about or what is required of us. in short she has no grounds to lecture me about being a Warden.  Like I said had the lectures about what it is to be a Grey Warden come from Alistair it wouldn't bother me, because it's coming from someone who, presumably, knows more about being a Grey Warden than I do.

If she wants to lecture me on proper hygene, washing my dog, magic, heck even politics, no problem; she presumably has knowledge of these things to share.

Preaching and teaching aren't as dissimilar as you're trying to make them seem. Preaching merely refers to someone advocating a particular religious or moral belief. For example, I took a political class about sex and law, and while my professor taught about the laws regarding sex, he also preached about his beliefs regarding sexual freedom. Teachers are often guided by their own ideological beliefs.

But you're probably referring to "preaching" in a negative connotation. Certainly, if you don't agree with Wynne, then you won't like the moral advice that she gives to you. It's all a matter of perspective.

Wynne isn't a warden, true, she's just offering information about what she knows about wardens, as well as her beliefs on what they should do (she obviously has a high opinion and ideal on what a warden is).  You don't have to agree with her, that's entirely up to you.

For example, my mage disagrees with a lot of what Sten believes concerning magi (not to mention that he himself is not a mage), but overall he likes Sten, despite their differences.

Honestly, I didn't dislike a single one of them.

In Origins, I didn't really hate anyone. The ones I liked the least where maybe Sten and Zevran. Sten is kind of a jerk, but he's still fun to take around sometimes. I usually kill him for being a murderous monster though.

Zevran can be fun a lot of fun to talk around when he isn't making kiiinnd of inappropriate jokes or betraying me. I think with him, how I deal with him in each playthrough can affect a lot of how I perceive him. My human noble and dalish elf were mostly the exact same type of characters, but somehow my elf was able to become good friends with Zevran and my human (not having the benefit of hindsight) didn't really get along with him and eventually killed him for treachery. I don't really mind either of them really though. The only one that I REALLY kind of hate is Valenna, admitedly I haven't done a full run with her in Awakening, but she most certainly got on my nerves faster than any pater member in any game I can remember.

Oh I don't dislike Wynne it's just irritating to have someone tell you how to do your job when you know they've never done it and don't know anything about it.  She's entitled to her opinion and I'm entitled to be annoyed, everybody wins.

It's become Morrigan for me actually (in this playthrough at least) not for her fighting/magic skills, not for dissaproves (I manage not to get too much dissaproval from her), but cause she's a bit whiny actually. I used to love Claudia Black, but her voice is starting to grate on me. I think it's the party banter that's doing it. Sometimes the dialogue is funny, but she's grating on my nerves actually. I hit some weird glitch where when I had her in my party with Sten every dialogue trigger spot had them talking about having sex. It was hilarious the first ten times, but it got old really quickly. Though Sten still makes me laugh.

^ Can I ask why? Is there anything specific you've found that he does annoying? I only ask because Awakening's Oghren seems to be the same as Origins' Oghren, in that the things that the says are so similar and offensive.

Hmmm...  Maybe I had a different impression in Origins because I recruited Oghren rather late in the game and didn't have him in the party too often?  In Awakening he was my only warrior for much of the game; thus, I got to hear all his comments to Sigrun and his feelings on magic users.

Good call on comparing Wynne to a college prof, who keeps inserting her own ideology to her teachings. Tho Wynne to me seems to be humbler, nicer, and far less elitist than the stereotypical member of the real life breed...

Sten is for me. I disliked his insensitivity to nuance, and his particular rule-based thinking struck me as simplistic - and it *really* irritated me how he would rationalize his rules by resorting to parables. Somehow though he seems intelligent to me, and if he is then his brainwashing was just tragic. I've nearly always just left him in Lothering.

Sten - He is so stiff. Never talks and always seems to look down on me. I could never unlock his dialogues because I never get past his 'No'. May be if I carry him in adventures he will appear interesting but his abilities are not that useful either. Posted Image

Wynne is ok. She has bit of motherly personality but that's why she goes around puting bandages on everybody. She and Alistair are the only two party member who have perfectly clean lawful background. I believe Wynne has never committed a sin.

The most interesting character, however, is Morrigan. Nobody can eclipse her show. All I can say is... Morrigan is dragon age. Posted Image

I like them all, but Wynne can be a bit overbearing at times, but I do enjoy her overall. Leliana can also get on my nerves with her chantry/Maker talk, but after she is hardened she isn't as irritating. Zevran also annoys me, but mostly because I really dislike his outrageously fake accent, but I do chuckle sometimes at his jokes/quips.

There are those who confuse preaching with teaching and hence the overlap we see in practice.

I am one of those who still like to believe the essence of teaching is precisely the opposite of preaching; instructing people to use their own critical thinking skills to evaluate the world around them.

I find Shale irritating, because of the boom boom boom when you walk anywhere with her in the party. As for Wynne, I like her a lot and find her comforting. When I first got DAO I hated Morrigan, because she didn't like anything my character did for the most part and constantly picked on Alistair. But she has grown on me because of the possible deep friendship you can form with her in a sisterhood kind of way.

Oghren. The writing combined with his voice made me want to bash him in the face with a hammer. He wasn't obnoxious in a humorous way...at all. I can't believe he was the Origins character chosen for Awakenings.
