After tackling the "admin" + "compatibility mode" problems the game finally launched. I got sound in MassEffectLauncher screen, but when I pressed play it disappeared and never came back.. Oh I was pissed (ok, still am, this is why I have not played any games with PC in over 10 years).
I tried to play around with software and hardware sound settings, but nothing worked. After endless amount of googling I was going to give up. My PC is connected to HT-amplfier via HDMI and for some reason, still don't know why, I digged some old 3.5mm-RCA cable from the bottom of my "forgotten electronics" box and hooked it between my videocard and amp (and of course switched AMD HDMI Output to Speakers from Windows Playback Devises).. Tadaa! And there was sound!
I still have no idea why audio doesn't work at all via HDMI. Could someone enlighten me, please? I'd really like to be able to play with my HT equipment, with multichannel sound.
Here is my PC when sound does not work / HDMI output selected (data taken from ME's configuration utility):
Processor: Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz
Display Adapter: ATI Radeon HD 4550 / 512 MB / Driver: aticfx64.dll,aticfx64.dll,aticfx32,aticfx32,atiumd64.dll,atidxx64.dll,atiumdag,atidxx32,atiumdva,atiumd6a.cap,atitmm64.dll [8.17.10.1059]
Sound Adapter: AMD HDMI Output (AMD High Definition Audio Device) / Driver AtihdLH6.sys [6.58.0.6600]
Operating system: Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Ultimate
DirectX version: DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later
Physical memory: Total 3,93 / Available 2,34 / Used 1,58
When I switch to Speakers and sound appears Sound Adapter looks like this:
Sound Adapter: Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) / Vendor Microsoft / Driver HdAudio.sys [6.0.6002.18005]
Anyone?
